How much does a gym membership cost in St. Augustine?

In 2026 big box and 24 hour gyms in St. Johns County run about 10 to 50 dollars per month plus an annual fee of 40 to 100 and sometimes a startup charge. Full service clubs with pools, classes, and childcare run 60 to 150 per month. Boutique studios for Pilates, cycling, or group strength charge 150 to 250 for unlimited classes, and CrossFit boxes typically 150 to 200.

Can I cancel a gym membership in Florida?

Yes, with conditions. Florida health studio law gives you three business days after signing to cancel for a full refund, and you can cancel if you move more than 25 miles from the gym with no comparable facility, or if a doctor certifies you cannot use the services. Outside those cases, you are bound by the contract terms, so read the cancellation clause and send any cancellation in writing by certified mail or whatever method the contract specifies.

What is the best gym near Nocatee?

It depends on what you want. Nocatee residents already have access to community fitness centers through their HOA, so many pair that with a boutique studio in Nocatee Town Center or Sawgrass Village for Pilates, yoga, or group training, or drive to a larger club along CR 210 or in Ponte Vedra for a pool and heavier equipment. Try the free classes at two or three places before you decide.

How much do personal trainers charge in Ponte Vedra and St. Augustine?

Independent personal trainers in St. Johns County typically charge 65 to 110 dollars per hour in 2026, and trainers at full service clubs or in Ponte Vedra Beach often charge 85 to 140. Small group training of two to four people runs 30 to 60 per person per session. Packages of 10 or more sessions usually bring the hourly rate down 10 to 20 percent.

Are there gyms with childcare in St. Johns County?

Yes, several of the larger clubs along US 1, in the CR 210 area, and in Ponte Vedra offer supervised kids' rooms, usually for an extra 15 to 40 dollars per month per family or a small per visit charge. Hours are limited, often weekday mornings and early evenings, so confirm the schedule matches when you plan to train. Boutique studios rarely offer childcare.

Is it safe to run or train outside in the summer here?

Early morning before 8 am is the safest window from June through September, when afternoon heat indexes routinely top 100 degrees and storms roll in after 2 pm. Shaded routes like the Nocatee greenway trails, the Palencia paths, and the Treaty Park and Alpine Groves areas help. Many locals shift to indoor training in summer and move back outside in October, which is why gyms are busiest in July and August.

How to choose a gym & fitness in Fernandina Beach & Amelia Island

Pick the gym you will actually drive to

A 20 minute drive each way from Julington Creek to St. Augustine kills a routine by February. Choose something within 10 minutes of home or on your commute, and check that it is open and uncrowded at the hours you will really go. Weekday evenings at the CR 210 and Nocatee gyms are busy; early mornings are not.

Read the contract and know your Florida rights

Florida's health studio law requires gyms selling memberships to register with the state and gives you a three business day right to cancel after signing, plus cancellation rights if you move far away or become disabled. Contracts must spell out the term, fees, and cancellation process. Ask about the annual fee, the increase policy, and exactly how to cancel in writing before you sign.

Try before you commit

Nearly every gym and studio in the county offers a free class, a trial week, or a day pass. Use it at the time of day you plan to train. Look at equipment condition, whether the air conditioning keeps up in August, how clean the locker rooms are, and whether staff are present or the front desk is empty.

Check trainer and instructor credentials

Personal trainers do not need a state license in Florida, so certifications from recognized bodies and experience matter. Ask what a trainer is certified in, how long they have trained clients, and whether they carry liability insurance if they are independent. Pilates reformer and yoga instructors should have completed a comprehensive training program, not a weekend course.

Compare the real monthly cost

A 10 dollar a month big box membership often comes with a 50 to 100 dollar annual fee and a startup charge. Boutique studios run 150 to 250 per month unlimited, or 25 to 40 per class. Add up a full year including fees, and weigh it against your HOA gym plus a few paid classes a month.
