How much does a 60 minute massage cost in St. Augustine?

In 2026 a 60 minute massage in St. Johns County runs about 85 to 125 dollars with an independent licensed therapist, 110 to 160 at a day spa, and 200 to 275 at the Ponte Vedra and World Golf Village resort spas, which usually add an automatic 20 percent service charge. Ninety minute sessions add roughly 40 to 60 dollars. Chain membership rates are lower but require a monthly commitment.

How do I know if a massage place is legitimate in Florida?

Look for a posted Florida massage establishment license and individual therapist licenses, which you can verify on the Florida Department of Health website. Legitimate businesses have a real name, normal hours, online booking or a phone that gets answered, and clear service menus. Cash only, covered windows, late night hours, and no license on the wall are reasons to walk away and report the business.

Does insurance cover massage therapy in Florida?

Sometimes. Massage is not usually covered by standard health plans as a standalone service, but it may be covered when billed through a chiropractor or physical therapist as part of a treatment plan, and auto injury PIP claims in Florida can cover massage prescribed by a physician. Some HSA and FSA accounts allow massage with a letter of medical necessity. Ask the provider what they bill and confirm with your plan.

Do I need to tip at a spa if a service charge is added?

If the spa adds an automatic 18 to 20 percent service charge, which is standard at the Ponte Vedra and World Golf Village resort spas, additional tipping is optional. At day spas and independent therapists with no service charge, 18 to 20 percent is customary in St. Johns County. Ask at checkout whether the gratuity is included so you do not tip twice.

What is the difference between deep tissue and sports massage?

Deep tissue uses slow, firm pressure to work through chronic tension in specific muscle layers and is what most people with desk or golf related back pain ask for. Sports massage is more targeted to how you move, often includes stretching, and is timed around training or recovery. Many local therapists blend both. Tell them what hurts and what you do, and let them pick the approach.

Are there couples massages and spa packages in St. Augustine?

Yes, couples massages are a staple of the downtown St. Augustine and Vilano Beach day spas because of the wedding and anniversary traffic, and the Ponte Vedra resort spas offer half day packages with facials, body treatments, and pool access. Expect 220 to 350 dollars for a 60 minute couples massage at a day spa and 450 to 700 at a resort. Book weekends several weeks ahead in spring and fall.

Spas & Massage in Jacksonville & Northeast Florida, FL

Spas & Massage in Northeast Florida

St. Johns County has an unusual mix of spa options for a county this size: resort spas in Ponte Vedra Beach and World Golf Village that serve both guests and locals, day spas in downtown St. Augustine that draw weekend visitors, and a large number of independent massage therapists working out of suites in Nocatee, Julington Creek, and along US 1. The local clientele leans toward golfers and tennis players with tight hips and shoulders, retirees managing chronic pain, and parents who want a quiet hour. Florida licenses massage therapists individually and licenses the establishment too, and both must be displayed. Resort spas charge resort prices and add a 20 percent service charge, while an independent therapist in a suite may charge half as much for the same hour. Knowing the difference, and what medical massage your insurance may cover, helps you spend wisely.

How to choose a spa & massage in Northeast Florida

Verify the Florida massage license

Every massage therapist in Florida must hold an active license from the Department of Health, and the business needs a massage establishment license. Both must be posted. You can check either online in a minute. Unlicensed massage businesses are a real problem in Northeast Florida, and a legitimate spa will never hesitate to show you credentials.

Match the therapist to the problem

A relaxation Swedish massage and a 60 minute deep tissue session for a golf back injury are different skills. Ask whether the therapist has training in sports massage, medical massage, prenatal, or lymphatic drainage if that is what you need. Many local therapists work with physical therapists and chiropractors and can coordinate care.

Compare resort, day spa, and independent pricing

A 60 minute massage might be 85 to 125 dollars with an independent therapist in Nocatee or St. Augustine, 120 to 160 at a day spa, and 200 to 275 at a Ponte Vedra or World Golf Village resort with pool and facility access. The resort experience is worth it when you want the amenities; the independent is often the better therapist per dollar.

Read the membership terms before signing

Chain massage memberships are common along CR 210 and US 1 and bring the price down to 70 to 100 dollars per month for one session. Check cancellation rules, whether unused sessions roll over or expire, and what happens to your credits if you move. Florida requires written contracts for these plans; read yours.

Ask about facials and skin treatments for Florida skin

Sun damage drives most skin concerns here. Estheticians in St. Johns County must hold a Florida facial specialist or full specialist license. For chemical peels, microneedling, and anything injectable, ask who is performing it and under which medical director, since those fall under medical supervision rules. If the answer is vague, go elsewhere.
