Amore Mio Italian Pizzeria: A Hidden Neighborhood Gem Serving Authentic Handmade Pizza One of the things Susan and I enjoy most about reviewing restaurants is discovering places that quietly focus on quality rather than chasing trends. Those hidden gems often become our favorite finds, and that was exactly the case with our recent visit to Amore Mio Italian Pizzeria near Shearwater. Located along State Road 210, Amore Mio is easy to miss if you are not looking for it. The restaurant sits modestly among the growing communities in the area, but once you walk inside, you quickly realize it's all about authentic Italian comfort food and handcrafted pizza. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt welcoming and relaxed. The dining room is cozy and unpretentious, creating the kind of neighborhood environment where families, couples, and friends can gather over a great meal. It immediately reminded us of the local pizzerias we used to discover while traveling through small towns where recipes mattered more than marketing. One of the first things we learned was that Amore Mio still makes its dough from scratch and prepares its sauce in-house. In today's restaurant landscape, that commitment to traditional preparation methods is becoming increasingly rare. Fortunately, the difference is immediately noticeable in the finished product. We began our meal with a Caprese Salad and a Caesar Salad. The Caprese offered fresh tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and basil that delivered bright, clean flavors. The Caesar was crisp, fresh, and well-balanced, providing the perfect start before the pizzas arrived. For our main course, we sampled both the Margherita and Supreme Pizzas. The Margherita Pizza was exactly what we hoped for when ordering this classic Italian favorite. Fresh tomatoes, quality mozzarella, and house-made sauce came together in perfect harmony. Nothing was overdone, allowing each ingredient to contribute its own character to every bite. Susan's favorite of the evening was the Supreme Pizza. While the generous toppings of olives and onions certainly made an impression, what truly stood out was the garlic-seasoned crust. The crust baked up thin and wonderfully crisp while adding a subtle garlic flavor that elevated the entire pizza. Peter thought there were perhaps a few more olives than he would normally prefer, but Susan absolutely loved them. If you enjoy olives, this pizza deserves your attention. One unique feature that sets Amore Mio apart is its BYOB policy. The restaurant does not serve alcohol, but guests are encouraged to bring their own beer or wine. Just remember to bring glasses and a corkscrew. We actually appreciate this approach because it allows diners to enjoy their favorite beverages without paying restaurant markup prices. Service throughout the evening was attentive and friendly. The staff helped create a relaxed experience that encouraged us to slow down and enjoy our meal. What impressed us most was the restaurant's authenticity. Nothing felt forced. The food was handmade, the service was genuine, and the atmosphere reflected the personality of a true neighborhood restaurant. With a total score of 49 out of 60, Amore Mio Italian Pizzeria earns a strong ★★★★☆ 4-Star Rating from The Culinary Duo. If you find yourself near Shearwater or traveling along State Road 210, this hidden local favorite is worth seeking out. Great pizza begins with great dough, great sauce, and people who care about what they serve. Amore Mio delivers all three.
We first tried Amore Mio two years ago when we first moved to the area and it was fine. We have tried a bunch of other places but decided to come back to Amore Mio today. We got garlic knots, Caesar salad, and a pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms. They make all dough/bread, sauces, everything in house from fresh ingredients and you can tell. Everything was delicious. The garlic knots were the best I’ve had anywhere ever. Get the garlic butter crust on your pizza. Trust me.
I recently dined at Amore Mio and was blown away by their pizza. The fresh ingredients and the crust—hands down the best I’ve had in ages made each slice a delight. The customer service was fantastic; the staff was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall experience. If you love pizza, Amore Mio is a must-visit!
We were driving back from a festival and saw this place on the way home. It looked cool so I did a U-turn and came back and ate here. My partner got the garden pizza and I got the godfather. The food was AMAZING. So fresh and cooked perfectly. Our server Sabine was so great and attentive and very nice. The ambiance made the experience even better. We will be back!!
It was our first time here. This place is a diamond in the rough. The food was delicious and the old school Italian music brought me back to my NY childhood. If you’re in the mood for Italian food I suggest you give them a try. I wish I would’ve taken a picture of the salad with also was amazing.
