How often should I wash my car if I live near the beach in Florida?

Every one to two weeks is a reasonable schedule for cars kept near the coast in St. Johns County, and rinse the car within a day or two after any beach trip or time parked within a few blocks of the ocean. Salt spray attacks clear coat and undercarriage metal, and lovebugs and bird droppings can etch paint within days in summer heat. A quick rinse is better than waiting for a full wash.

How much does a full detail cost in St. Augustine?

A full interior and exterior detail on a sedan runs about 200 to 350 dollars in 2026 at local shops and mobile detailers, and 275 to 450 for SUVs and trucks. Interior only with shampoo and stain treatment is usually 125 to 250. Add 100 to 300 if there is pet hair, sand ground into the carpet, or heavy mold from a car left closed up over the summer.

Are automatic car washes bad for paint?

Modern soft cloth tunnels are much gentler than the old brush washes, but any contact wash can leave fine swirl marks over time, especially on black and dark paint. Touchless washes avoid contact but use stronger chemicals and clean less thoroughly. For a daily driver, a quality tunnel wash is fine. For a new, dark, or ceramic coated car, a hand wash or a careful mobile detailer is the safer choice.

Is a ceramic coating worth it in Florida?

For a car you plan to keep and park outside, usually yes. The coating adds UV resistance, makes bird droppings and lovebugs easier to remove, and keeps the car cleaner between washes. Professional coatings in St. Johns County cost 600 to 2,000 dollars including paint correction and typically last two to five years. It is not scratch proof and still needs regular washing with pH neutral soap.

How do I get lovebugs off my car without ruining the paint?

Soak them first. Wet a microfiber towel or use a bug remover spray, let it sit a few minutes, then wipe gently rather than scrubbing. Do it within a day or two, because their acidic residue etches clear coat quickly in the sun. A coat of wax or sealant before May and September season makes removal much easier. Dryer sheets scratch paint; skip that trick.

Can a mobile detailer come to my house in Nocatee or Ponte Vedra?

Yes, mobile detailing is common across the county and most crews bring their own water, power, and shade canopy. Check whether your HOA has rules about commercial vehicles or water runoff into storm drains, and ask the detailer to use a waterless or rinseless method on pavers if you are concerned about staining. Prices are similar to shop detailing with a small travel fee for outlying areas like Hastings.

Car Washes & Detailers in Fernandina Beach & Amelia Island

Car washes and detailers in Fernandina Beach & Amelia Island range from quick express tunnels with unlimited monthly plans to mobile detailers who do full interior and ceramic coating work in your driveway. Living in Fernandina Beach & Amelia Island means salt air, pollen, and lovebugs, so a wash every week or two with an undercarriage rinse is reasonable upkeep. For detailing, ask for prices by vehicle size, confirm the detailer carries insurance, and find out whether they bring their own water and power or need yours.

How to choose a car wash & detailing in Fernandina Beach & Amelia Island

Decide between tunnel, hand wash, and mobile

Express tunnels are cheapest and fastest, and the better ones are fine for daily drivers if you add the undercarriage spray. Hand washes and mobile detailers cost more but are gentler on dark paint and ceramic coatings. If your vehicle is new, black, or coated, a touchless or hand wash avoids the swirl marks that brush tunnels leave over time.

Look at the undercarriage option

Salt and sand collect in wheel wells and on brake and fuel lines, and that is where rust starts on Florida cars. Choose a wash that includes or offers an undercarriage rinse and use it after every beach trip. Mobile detailers usually cannot do this well in a driveway, so pair them with an occasional tunnel wash.

Read the fine print on monthly plans

Unlimited plans in the county run about 20 to 45 dollars per month depending on the tier. They pay off if you wash twice a month or more. Check whether the plan is tied to one vehicle, how to cancel, and whether the cheap tier includes the undercarriage rinse or only soap and a dry.

Ask detailers about insurance and products

A detailer using a machine polisher on your paint can burn through clear coat, and a mobile crew in your driveway can damage pavers with harsh chemicals. Ask for proof of liability insurance, what products they use, and how many steps their paint correction involves. Good detailers inspect the paint with a light before quoting.

Be realistic about ceramic coatings

Professional ceramic coatings run 600 to 2,000 dollars locally and help with UV, bird droppings, and easier washing, but they are not armor and still need proper washing. Confirm what prep is included, since the coating is only as good as the paint correction under it, and ask about the warranty terms and required maintenance washes.
