The food here was amazing we were actually surprised at how good it was. Our entire group enjoyed our food and wanted to go back before leaving vacation. There wasn’t enough staff so the hostess served our table and did GREAT and it was her first week. I give that 5 stars alone.
What a little gem. I was craving something different from fried seafood or shrimp w/ a side of shrimp - seems that's all every restaurant in St. Augustine serves for the most part, but not Santiagos'. First, its important to know this restaurant is located inside the Guy Harvey hotel, there is only a tiny tiny sign at the road on A1A and there is NO sign at the hotel entrance, nothing. The only reason we went into the hotel was we could smell food from the parking lot. Boy was I glad we went in. We were immediately greeted by the bar tender and sat. Our waters and drink orders were taken immediately. I had the gyro with a side garden salad. Admittedly I was skeptical that they cold make a good gyro, I've had them for decades all around the world including Greece so I know what a good one vs. a great one should taste like. I took my first bite and BAM, boy was I amazed of the Greek flavors, you taste the cucumber, lemon, mint, garlic and the meat had a perfect crisp and piled high. The pita bread was fresh and soft like it should be. I honestly could not believe how good it was. The garden salad was perfect with a variety of lettuce and vegetable, the balsamic dressing add the perfect touch. Would I eat here again? Heck yes. The service is great, the food was delicious and the atmosphere both inside and outside seating is perfect.
Food: a small menu had me excited for a chef that prepared what he knew well. The food was fresh but everything was over thought. The crab cakes were lacking crab and over seasoned. The Mahi was cooked perfectly and then ruined with a "drizzle" that should have been served on the side, I want my fish to be the star. The brussel sprouts were perfectly grilled, then drowned in some kind of honey glaze, not a fan. The coconut shrimp was seriously lacking coconut flavor and came with 2 dipping sauces, I assume to cover up the protein lacking flavor. Even the "Bees Knees" had an added ingredient completely ruining what is already a perfect concoction. I will be looking for a different restaurant to eat my Saturday evening dinner. The service was good but, everything the waitress recommended, we did not like. The atmosphere, let's just say a lobby bar/restaurant. Guy Harvey should reconsider plastering his name all over it, or address the issues.
My wife and I were very impressed with the flavors, portions and atmosphere at this place we only stumbled into after Googling for a new place to try some poke… and oddly, the poke itself wasn’t even the item we loved most. We started with the Jerk Pork Belly Nachos which was fresh, hot and loaded with flavor. We’re goat cheese lovers so the “whipped goat cheese” jumped off the menu at us and we think we made the right choice. We had to stop ourselves halfway full of we wouldn’t have room to even try our entrees. For entrees we had their unusual take on Poké - lots of grilled veggies and pineapple - and the “& Grits” with blackened shrimp, which was probably the standout dish of the night… Although the dessert kind of blew our minds too - coconut pineapple cheesecake 🤤 The menu here is relatively small, yet offers a lot of variety. That’s a gamble for restaurants that can’t decide what cuisine they specialize in, but these guys make it work. We were genuinely, thoroughly impressed. Not the most affordable meal, but also that expensive - priced right for what you get, in our opinion. And again, the portions are great - we had a full meal with our leftovers of all of the dishes mentioned above. We both agreed on the way home that this is a must-go place when we have company come from out of state.
We ate there tonight and we both ordered the snow crab legs. These were my first crab legs but they were AMAZING!!! My friend said they were the best he's ever had. The garlic mashed potatoes were delicious! Drinks were good. Great atmosphere too. 100% worth the price and the drive .
