  Today I had my very first PT session with Katelyn Dye at the San Marco location. For this being my first time at this location and with this provider, I was very disappointed and frustrated with the overall experience. Katelyn lacked patient care, did not lead with empathy and understanding, and had poor bedside manner. For someone who has to interact with patients who are already very uncomfortable and in pain, placing patient care and decency should be a priority. She did not take the time to assess my situation, ask questions, fully explain what I was to be doing through demonstrations, nor did she care to understand where the pain is. I came in with a knee problem, I have trouble bending the knee, she sat me on lowest bench in the facility and I had to ask her if we could move to a higher bench for better support. I do not know if this is her usual approach with patients, especially new ones, but it was not welcoming nor comforting in an already uncomfortable situation. I am not sure if she is comfortable with working with different types of people (black), but her care for me and the other black lady she was working with lacked people skills. Physical therapy is not something you just give orders and walk off to go chat with your other PT buddies. Spending time showing your patients what the stretches are and why we are doing them goes a long way.
