My mom was at Ascension- st Vincent rehab hospital for 3 weeks in January and February following a stroke. The nursing staff was wonderful, as were all the PTs, OTs and speech therapists. Special call outs to Luis, Paula and Nicole on the nursing staff, and Jude and Kevin, patient assistants. The therapists Liz, Casey and Savannah who worked with her over that three week period were unbelievably helpful. She saw great improvements because of their expertise. The only reason for 4 stars not 5, have to do with the lack of communication from the medical staff as well as lack of communication around discharge planning. I was unable to be at the hospital all day and if the doctor and I did not overlap, I would have no idea about her medication changes, improvements, etc. The hospital wanted to discharge her before we had any safe arrangements made for her which added a great deal of stress. I received no meaningful guidance unless I pressed the point.

Rehab care is top notch. I had an excellent technician on physical rehabilitation, Eric and another on adjusting to home and life, Marissa. They both intersect and have a great crew, working with them. As a fact, the whole of Fifth floor work together an why I can go home feeling secure and safe❤️
My dad has been in the hospital in rehab for several Days and ever since the operation everyone assisting him have been so kind and professional, I can’t remember everyone’s name, but the two that pop out the most is Luis Galatia, this man he is like family as of now, Puertorican and he speaks both languages fluently He is truly an awesome nurse and then Lauren she is the fisically therapist and I absolutely love her she is funny and bossy, she has been helping my dad get into tiptop shape she is awesome to. I am from Reading PA and I will be leaving as soon as dad no longer needs me, but everyone who has attended my Dad Israel Cortes, I appreciate each and one of you and specially Luis and Lauren
I am 80 years old and had a major spine Surgury-3 level spinal fusion-and went to Inpatient Rehab for recovery. Just amazing facility. The occupational and physical therapy team were caring and committed to my recovery. Not only focused on my recovery but also on pain management so I did not go too far. From administration to discharge I could not have asked for a more attentive care team. Push the button and they are there. I hope no one has to go through this operation but if you do then I really recommend you consider this option. Too many fantastic folks to list but a shout out to Merissa, Ariana, Medhu and Drs Ali and Hanson-all part of an amazing team.
I’m so upset with this facility. The only reason they will get one star was because of the nurses. They were sweet to him and very attentive. My husband was released and is now in even worse condition than before his surgery. They released him without continuing his steroid treatment sand he has regressed terribly. We had continuous issues with his meds being discontinued on “accident” or never prescribed. They let him go home cold turkey with no further steroid prescription. We had to get one from his primary care. He was on the steroid the entire time because developed a swallowing issue after not receiving steroids after having surgery when transferred to the rehab, he was NPO for 10 days. He dropped an additional 10lbs and was already severely malnourished. He’s now 125 lbs. Of course he felt like Superman while being on IV steroids the whole time. I called the case worker, Tarah with the rehab to tell her this and she acted like she was so concerned and said “oh no he should have still been on a steroid, it should have been ordered. I’ll call Dr Hansen and get one prescribed” She never called back. My husband was released after having neck compression surgery/fusion (diagnosed with Parkinson’s while there) and he is unable to walk, get dressed, sit up, eat, shower, go #1 and #2 without being fully assisted. The rehab referred us to a home health agency that has no nurses aides so I have no one to bath him or assist me in any way. I will be speaking to an attorney.
