How much does it cost to furnish a new home in Nocatee or St. Johns?

Furnishing a typical 2,500 square foot new build in St. Johns County from mostly mid-range stores runs about 25,000 to 60,000 dollars in 2026 for living, dining, primary bedroom, and two secondary rooms. Budget-focused shoppers using chain stores and consignment can do it for 12,000 to 20,000 dollars. Designer showrooms and custom pieces push well past 100,000 dollars.

What furniture holds up best near the beach?

Teak, powder-coated aluminum, and high-density resin wicker for outdoors. Indoors, look for performance fabrics, solid wood with a sealed finish, and stainless or brass hardware rather than plain steel. Avoid particleboard in humid rooms and cheap chrome anywhere near salt air. Stores that serve Vilano, Crescent Beach, and Ponte Vedra customers usually stock with this in mind.

Where are the furniture stores in St. Augustine?

The chain and discount furniture stores cluster along US 1 south of downtown and up near the SR 16 and I-95 interchange. Antiques, consignment, and design shops are concentrated on San Marco Avenue in the Uptown district. Ponte Vedra has design showrooms along A1A and near Sawgrass Village, and Durbin Park off CR 210 has the big national retailers.

How long does custom furniture take?

Most custom upholstery from domestic manufacturers takes 8 to 16 weeks in 2026. Imported case goods and some custom dining pieces can take 12 to 24 weeks. Stores that stock in a local warehouse can deliver in a week or two. Ask for a written estimated ship date and what happens if it slips.

Is it worth hiring an interior designer?

For a whole new house, often yes. Designers in St. Johns County charge 100 to 250 dollars an hour or a flat fee per room, and many have trade pricing that offsets part of their fee. Several local furniture stores offer free or low-cost design help if you buy from them. For one room, a store designer is usually enough.

Do furniture stores in St. Johns County deliver to the beach?

Yes, but ask about the fee. Deliveries across the Bridge of Lions, the Vilano bridge, or to Crescent Beach and Ponte Vedra often carry a higher charge than in-town deliveries. Elevated beach homes with exterior stairs and condos with elevator reservations can add time and cost. Give the store photos of the access route.

How to choose a furniture & home decor in Fernandina Beach & Amelia Island

Buy for the climate

Humidity and salt air are hard on furniture. Look for kiln-dried hardwood frames, performance fabrics that resist mildew, powder-coated aluminum or teak for outdoors, and stainless hardware near the ocean. Ask the salesperson what fails fastest in beach houses. Honest stores will tell you.

Measure the doorways and the stairs

A lot of St. Johns County homes have narrow stairwells, tight condo elevators, or second-floor living rooms in elevated beach houses. Measure every doorway and turn before ordering a sectional. Many stores charge a restocking fee if a piece will not fit and has to go back.

Ask about lead times and in-stock options

Custom upholstery commonly takes 8 to 16 weeks, and case goods ordered from overseas can take longer. If you are moving into a new build next month, ask what is in the warehouse or on the floor. Many local showrooms sell floor models at a discount.

Get delivery and setup in writing

Delivery within the county typically runs 100 to 250 dollars for white-glove service with assembly and packaging removal. Beach addresses across the bridges and third-floor walkups can cost more. Confirm whether the crew will haul away your old piece and what happens if something arrives damaged.

Consider consignment and antiques

San Marco Avenue in St. Augustine and several consignment stores around the county turn over quality furniture from downsizing retirees and model homes. Solid pieces often cost half of new and are already acclimated to Florida humidity. Check for wobble, water damage, and signs of termites or powderpost beetles.
