We had another great dinner at Fish Company on Thursday night (July 16). Even though they were busy, the service was fast and friendly. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller, and they were delicious as always. My husband ordered fish, and I had the larger portion of flounder, which was fresh, flavorful, and very filling. I usually order the shrimp and grits, but I decided to try the fish this time and wasn't disappointed. The only miss for me was the grits, which I didn't care for. The hushpuppies were also sweeter than I expected, which isn't really my preference. My husband enjoyed both, though, so your mileage may vary. Overall, another excellent meal, and we'll definitely be back.
Leaving my review in an act of Public Service THIS PLACE IS SCAMMING YOU I shared my experience with friends and experts in the seafood industry and they were all appalled by this restaurant’s practice and encouraged me to leave my review Ordered a dozen raw oysters as seen in the photo. They were all supposed to be Salt Run and $26 versus $17 for the house oyster. As I was eating them, I noticed about half were briny and the other half not. I turned the shells over and there was a distinct difference between the shells as seen in photos 2 and 3 I asked the server if perhaps they gave me someone’s half-and-half order. He said I was the only oyster order, so no. He added that the bar did say I got what was left of the Salt Run so maybe they substituted with another…. Ok, if that were the case, why wouldn’t they tell me? The server assured me that he would come back with answers. When he returned, he said the shucker explained how, because of how the oysters grow, they don’t always have an intact shell to rest in, so he used the shells of another oyster, even though all of the oysters I was given were supposedly Salt Run Like I said, I tasted a difference between them and you can also see a difference in meatiness in my first photo. The server proceeded to gaslight me and said, verbatim, “I don’t know how your brain works but maybe you think they taste different because the shells looked different.” 1) I noticed the taste before I even turned over the shells 2) industry pros confirmed that there is no such thing as putting oysters in a different oyster shell. Even if there were cracked shells, to have had 50% open poorly is a weird statistic, and to have other shells available means they came empty and should have been discarded immediately, or they were already slurped on by someone. Some folks have encouraged that I reach out to the health department Just by the way the information was being delivered to me by the server (weird energy and refusing to make eye contact), I knew I was being gaslit and that they were attempting to scam me. Since they got caught, server only charged me for a half dozen If they had just been honest and told me they ran out of the more expensive oysters, I would have been completely fine with it. It was the doubling down on the lie, and then insulting me that really weirded me out. This makes me question the integrity of the entire business Again, I spoke to a GM of an oyster bar as well as other industry professionals and they said it was not a thing to use the shell of another oyster, and that this is a total scam. They were also taken aback by the conditions of the oysters in the photo and explained that regardless of what they are, they were very poorly shucked and unacceptable Shame on you all
We were so so pleased!!! Greeted when we entered! Severs were Excellent!!! We had Oysters, Shrimp, Fish and Crab cake Baked potatoes and Coleslaw And to Top it off The key lime pie!!!!! JC /Haley our serves said they make it fresh Daily! And it Didn’t Disappoint Over all a 10/10
I went in the off season and the restaurant was busy. Service was great. My complaint is simple, clean the shellfish as the sand in your mouth as you eat sucks. Such a shame as the risotto was great.
Took myself out for a little solo lunch at Fish Company. I haven’t been in a long time and wanted to share that it is just as good as I remember. I treated myself to half a pound of their spicy peel and eat shrimp, small order of mussels and three pounds of crawfish to go. I know the LA crawfish purists will go berserk at the fact it’s $15 a lb, but to me it’s definitely worth the price. The seasonings used are fantastic and infinitely better than the frozen stuff you’ll find at the boil places in town. Overall, I highly recommend treating yourself to a wonderful meal at Fish Company! — at The Fish Co Jax.
