The testing center at St. Johns River State College made the entire testing experience easy and stress-free. It was simple to find, and I really appreciated having lockers available to safely store personal belongings during the exam. The staff kept everything organized and made the check-in process smooth and straightforward. If you’re taking an exam here, you can expect a professional and efficient experience.
I dual enrolled at this college while in high school, and though I have always loved school (and love my current college, not SJR State), I despised this school. I had maybe ONE well-communicated and intelligent teacher, and the rest were unfortunately awful. One specifically being Professor Eckhardt. This woman poorly explained her class requirements. She did very clearly explain the class curriculum in her 12 hours of lecture videos each week, I’ll give her that, but when those tests came around… Let’s just say if you don’t show your desk space clearly (even on the FIRST TEST, with no prior warning whatsoever) she entitles herself to take away a whopping 50% of your test grade, effectively destroying your chances of continuing dual enrollment as if you fail a single class you’re out of DE. Thanks so much Eckhardt for ruining my DE without even explaining yourself or what I did wrong🩷
The campus is so fricking gorgeous. Hats off to the grounds keeping crew because they KNOW what they're doing. There are even tags you can scan by the different flora to learn more about them. My big-backed self obviously took photos of the food too- shout out to the rolling stone family grill, it's so yummy!! You can find it in the student union hall with the pool table and arcade games 😊. Love this campus overall, it's so big and I used to get lost but now that I'm more familiar it's relaxing to just walk around and get a feel for the place.
I have went to this college on and off for a few years. Most of the professors and advisors are great, however I've had a few bad experiences with both advisors and professors. It is also hard to get a return call, which makes it feel like your education isn't important. I am not the only one in my family who has had these issues. SJR State also took away the ability to pursue two programs of study, without any warning, which leaves me and I'm sure many other students in my situation, having to skip semesters and reapply at a later time to finish their degree programs. I used to love this college, but it is going downhill. If you can't find your preferred program of study at a better college, be prepared to have to skip semesters, especially if you have a nice amount of courses done already.
My review is for the admissions dept and the dean of my program. First off the admissions dept is a joke. You want to simply pay on your account… walk over here and we will let you do it. The whole point of coming up here was so I didn’t have to do it. Really what are yall even doing up there? Make you pay online with a card and the charge you 25 dollars for the convenience fee even tho they make it the only way to pay…. They always say they are backed up or just really busy. That’s their excuse when things are not getting done. I had to send my transcripts 4 times before they finally got processed and added to my account, But if you say you’re busy and can’t turn something in then it’s unacceptable and they kick you out of the school. Just very unprofessional and lazy in my opinion. Second off is the dean of my program. She is a straight up liar. I was coming to the program on short notice and needed a few questions answered before I committed to the program. Met with the director of the program so he could meet with the dean to get my questions answered. Long story short, he met with the dean and came back to me saying I am good to go, all my concerns would be sorted out, to get signed up. I sign up for classes and I stay in touch with them to make sure things are getting done with that we had discussed. I keep being told yes all is good we are working on setting that up for you. We get halfway through the semester and my concerns have still not been addressed. They come to me 3 weeks before the semester ends and tell me the dean has changed her mind and she will no longer do what she said they were going to do. The teacher is upset and tells her you know we already talked about this and you’re making me look like a liar to this student after we already gave him our word. Of course he asks her why she changed her mind because I am going to want to know and she basically says because I said so. Doesn’t give any explanation etc. Just because I said so. This isn’t kindergarten, I’m a 35 year old man trying to better my life. You don’t get to treat us like we are 5 year olds. I only joined this program based off these things happening because I work, have a family with 2 kids and wanted a program that fits my schedule. Now I can’t even change programs to another school that will actually do what they say because this school teaches the curriculum in a different order than most programs as well as they use a different book than most programs so now I am stuck here and can’t even transfer out to finish at a school that better accommodates my busy schedule. Most schools want me to start all over because of this. Needless to say I wouldn’t recommend this school or program to anyone unless it’s your last ditch effort. They work at their own pace and schedule, with no accountability for anybody working there. If I ran a business like this it would not last. It’s crazy that people are now ok mediocrity and doing the bare minimum.
