Glad I came with no expectations. The concept of kaiten sushi (conveyor-belt sushi) is a great idea, but the execution is another matter. I think the kitchen staff need to be properly trained on how to make maki and hand rolls. Based on what I observed, quite a few rolls were falling apart. Overall, the maki rolls preparation was just sloppy. The three pieces that were actually enjoyable, in my opinion, were the ika (squid), eel, and sweet shrimp. The spicy tuna roll was subpar—the minced tuna was dry and, despite the name, barely spicy. The crabmeat seaweed inari was sloppily put together. The yellowtail was tasteless and, to me, neither looked nor tasted like yellowtail. The ikura (salmon roe) was far too salty, and the roe itself didn’t look particularly plump or fresh. On the positive side, the ambience and service were both good. Our server was friendly and attentive, which definitely helped make the experience more pleasant. Overall, the concept is fun, but the execution needs quite a bit of work.
It’s a bit of a wait, understandable since it just opened. But it was worth it to me. Nice ambience and the sushi names were memorable and from what I tried pretty tasty. I loved the zootopia roll it was popular so we had to order the whole roll. I for sure recommend the dango!
I really wanted to like Nara Sushi in Ponte Vedra Beach, especially because the restaurant itself has a lot going for it. The environment is clean, modern, and trendy, and the atmosphere is pleasant. Unfortunately, the food quality did not come close to matching the appearance of the restaurant. As an Asian who grew up familiar with the taste and quality of seafood, I was particularly disappointed with the fish. The tilapia filet immediately stood out to me. The texture and taste were so familiar that it reminded me of the same frozen tilapia filets my mom would buy from the frozen section of an Asian supermarket. For a sushi restaurant, I expect the seafood to taste fresh and be of a noticeably higher quality. I also noticed that several of the appetizers seemed very similar to commercially prepared frozen foods. The taste and texture were almost identical to items you can purchase from the frozen-food section and heat at home. That was especially disappointing because dining at a restaurant should provide an experience and food quality beyond what I can easily prepare myself. Ultimately, I left feeling that I had paid restaurant prices for food that tasted like it had been taken from a freezer and microwaved. The clean and stylish environment cannot make up for disappointing food quality. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously and invests more in the quality and preparation of its ingredients. The location and atmosphere have potential, but for me, the food simply wasn't at the level I expect from a sushi restaurant. One star based on the overall dining experience.
I would consider this a one and done restaurant. I lived in Tokyo for a year and have already had the real experience and this is very similar to how it is in Tokyo with sushiro and Kura sushi in Japan. Our waitress misinformed us of the plates off the conveyor belt being $3.95 rather than the actual $4.95 so we were shocked to see our receipt at the end and not seeing the $3.95 as our waitress had told us. Sushi was pretty good the Zootopia roll was amazing! I’m also happy to see them having actual Japanese cuisine and desserts on the menu too just like the places in Japan. I would love to see some warmer lights in the restaurant too it would totally make the place feel so cozy rather than bright led lights I recommend ordering from the tablet! The food was made fresh to order and nice and hot even tho it is slightly more expensive
This place was wonderful. It was entertaining to watch everything rotating around and when you got a special order it knew exactly where to stop. As well as the names of the sushi were named after a lot of characters that I enjoy such as Iron Man,Pikachu, The Hulk ect.
