Extremely disappointing experience I visited this credit union with the intention of opening a checking account. I came prepared with all of the documentation I was told was required, yet I was ultimately denied the opportunity to open an account because my Florida ID is marked as “Temporary.” What is particularly frustrating is that this is a valid Florida-issued identification document that remains valid for five years. I have used this same identification to travel all over the country and I have successfully used it to open credit and debit accounts with other financial institutions. I have never encountered this issue before. I completely understand that financial institutions must follow identification and compliance requirements. However, what I found unacceptable was the lack of a clear, reasonable explanation or alternative solution. If a government-issued ID is valid for five years and is accepted for numerous other official and financial purposes, refusing service solely because it contains the word “Temporary” seems unnecessarily rigid and, from a customer’s perspective, extremely difficult to justify. Even more concerning, policies like this can have a discriminatory and racist impact on people from immigrant and minority communities, particularly when valid identification is treated differently simply because of its temporary designation. From my experience, this policy felt discriminatory and, quite frankly, racist. The most disappointing part was not simply being denied—it was the lack of willingness to help find a solution. A professional financial institution should be able to clearly explain its policies, provide guidance regarding acceptable alternatives, and treat customers with dignity and respect. Instead, I left feeling dismissed rather than assisted. Policies are one thing. How you treat people when those policies create a problem is another. Unfortunately, this experience left me with a very negative impression of this credit union. I would not recommend it to others unless they are prepared to deal with policies and customer service that, in my experience, felt unnecessarily discriminatory and exclusionary.

The very best experience! I usually dont answer my phone, but, decided to, as I was driving home from work. Long story short, I am glad I answered!! Aida helped me refinance my car, and get a personal loan to pay off my credit cards! I was barely making minimum payments, terribly high interest rates, etc. Much better rates, lower payments, and a snall deferment, to give me a chance to breathe! Ask to talk to Aida! She is at the SanJose branch, she is phenomenal! 🌹Thanks!!
AVOID banking with Community First Credit Union if you can. Community First Credit Union cost me a substantial amount of money due to issues with my auto loan payments. My automatic payments were stopped without my authorization, and no one could explain why they had been stopped. I only discovered the issue when Collections contacted me about a payment approximately three months after the automatic payments had stopped. I was also given conflicting and inaccurate information. A specialist told me that a payment had been made, but when I called the online payment department and reviewed my account, there was no record of the payment. This situation has been extremely frustrating and costly. The lack of communication, accountability, and accurate information is unacceptable when it involves someone’s finances. I strongly recommend carefully considering other options before banking with Community First Credit Union.
We had the pleasure of having Deb assist us with our account needs. She was very professional and provided us additional insight on options. She made it so easy and efficient that left us feeling such a positive experience compared with other financial institutions. Thank you so much Deb Green!
Lana Stepanova was a pleasure to work with at the Mandarin Branch. I went in to process a wire transfer and I created with smile and warm salutation. She proceeded to take me back and was detailed in explaining the process and what she needed from me. She was cautious with her validation of the receiving Banking Institution to ensure the funds would land where I requested. She then talked me through what to expect from Community First as part of the process in great patient detail. I walked out of the branch feeling comfortable and confident in the potential outcome. Thank you, Lana for your excellent customer service!
