Juan and other coaches are great. I only got to stay for about 1 year and 2 months, and I've learned so much over just a little time. but dont be lazy. Be consistent and be serious about it. If you wanna compete to just talk to Juan and he will help you out. The people here are kind, truthful, and like family, I thank all the coaches and people that train there to for everything. 💯 recommend.
I went by tonight to learn about classes. I saw kids training. There was a door which I thought was an office. I tried it. The door was locked. There was one teacher and no one else to talk to. I was really interested. Oh well.
This was for my kids. They had fun. But like most kids. They got tired of it. The owner is nice. Signing up is as simple as filling out a small paper form. Ending payments is made difficult by design. I paid 6mo in advance and told the owner it was only for 6mo. Then, I noticed a charge was attempted on my credit card after the 6mo elapsed. My bank blocked the charge automatically as fraudulent. I called the company (not owner), and they said I had to pay $260. I told them I only paid for 6mo and paid in advance. They said nope... it's subscription based, and the only way to cancel is to email this third-party company stating you want to cancel the subscription. And they will charge you 1mo in advance. Hence, the charge that declined. Oh... but they were not done with me yet. They added $15 for the declined charge. Then, they added $25 for a late charge, totaling $300+. I had to use a different Cc to pay because visa would not allow it to go through stating it's fraudulent. I had honestly considered giving Combative Unlimited another go. But after this very frustrating subscription cancelation. There is no way... Good luck to all you signing up.
So far so good. I was drawn to this place initially because it was the only place i found in Jacksonville that offered any kind of silat. Juan is an impressive instructor, i stick around because i respect his training. His website list his extensive background with martial arts and military/army rangers and it really shows that he is a serious and dedicated instructor that is well rounded in martial arts and significantly knowledgeable. I like that the classes are not too large, we are able to get more hands on training that way. If you like to be challenged and pushed to your limits then you will really enjoy his training like i do. 06/01/17 Update. I will keep my rating the same to be kind, however i will provide one piece of constructive criticism. When i joined i was only aware of one owner of the school, as time passed another person was introduced but it was never explained who this person was, i quickly realized this was a second instructor at the school. I would have liked to have known this information at the time of my consult. Communication is key. Although all instructors have received qualifications, some students may learn better and may be more focused depending on the instructor. This is nothing personal against anyone.
I went here for close to 2 years and I enjoyed every second of it. Coach Juan and coach Mike were very big guidances not just in my martial arts but also my life in general this is the best self defense school in Jacksonville hands down I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to learn martial arts
