I am extremely disappointed by my experience at this marina, not because of the location itself, but because of how a vulnerable animal is treated and how my concerns were handled. While visiting the area, I encountered Murray, an older, very friendly cat who clearly relies on humans. He approached us while we were walking the docks and was obviously hungry, so I gave him some of my leftover fish. After seeing him up close, I became concerned about his condition and wanted to understand whether he was actually being cared for properly. I understand that some people consider him a “community cat,” and I appreciate that people provide him with food. However, feeding a cat is not the same as ensuring that he is healthy, receiving medical attention, or has a safe long-term plan. Murray appeared to need more than just a bowl of food. What was most upsetting was the response when I tried to help. Instead of having a compassionate conversation about an animal’s wellbeing, I was met with hostility from marina staff. When I attempted to provide food and observe whether Murray would eat, I was prevented from doing so and was even threatened with police involvement for expressing concern. An animal who has become part of a community deserves more than being kept around for CONVENIENCE. If the marina and caretakers are unable or unwilling to provide veterinary care and proper support, the responsible thing to do would be to work with a rescue organization that can evaluate him and find the best solution for him. I hope management takes this seriously. Murray deserves advocates who prioritize his health and quality of life, not people who become defensive when someone asks whether he is truly okay.
Good people doing good things!!!! (not to mention good vibes) THANK YOU for your help today.
