I've taken three ASA courses with Windward Sailing. Every person I had contact with has been incredible. For someone new to sailing like myself there is a lot to absorb in a very small window. Both the Captains I was with through the 3 courses were patient, kind, and helpful. They found a balance between the serious nature of something that has inherent risk, at the same time enjoying the moments and being able to relax. I had no idea what to expect on day one. I didn't know if I was going to get screamed at for any mistakes, which is part of the learning process especially for a guy from Colorado who knows nothing about boats ( seriously nothing ), or indifference from instructors who were simply there for a paycheck. What I got from everyone was a desire to pass on knowledge of their passion. Here is the bottom line. I believe anyone who takes courses with Windward will walk away from it with a positive experience. I think people will look back like I can and say they are more competent and confident about sailing. To me that is the perfect place to start the journey.
I have been sailing with Windward for over 20 years and always have a wonderful time. Definitely one of the most peaceful, relaxing parts of our trip this year. Captain Roelie and his second mate (really his first and foremost), Sharon were welcoming and took great care of our crew. Can’t wait to go with them again. Our repeat voyage happened this past week while we were at Fernandina Beach for a week. Wonderful experience with lots of dolphin sightings. Thankfully we also had a bit more wind this time so less motoring and more sailing. Wonderfully relaxing. I have chartered and sailed with lots of folks over the past 25 years and these folks are definitely some of the best!
Awesome experience with Windward Sailing. We had five girls on their private catamaran at sunset for a bachelorette trip. Views and atmosphere were great! The owners were awesome and really added such a nice personal touch to our sail. Highly recommend booking with Windward and if you’re in between options- the catamaran was excellent!!!!! Memories made for a lifetime!
I had a phenomenal experience at Windward Sailing. I took the ASA 104 class with Roelie. He was a very knowledgeable, kind, and thorough instructor. I loved his teaching style, he mentioned there are many different ways that people do each of these sailing techniques/skills/processes, and he shared a wealth of personal knowledge alongside it. 10/10 would return for further courses. It's a great operation and a great value!
Had a great 3 hour sail with Coleman today. Sharon was very easy to make the reservation with, and Coleman was extremely experienced and knowledgeable on the water. They're a great outfit, and I couldn't recommend them enough. Will be back for sailing school!
