Urban Tech & Repair provides excellent, timely, and kind repair and recovery work. A trusted contact on University of North Florida's tech/ITS team recommended them to me as the best place in town to take a broken USB drive. (I had inadvertently left a thumb drive plugged into my laptop, and it bent and broke in my backpack.) I jumped on this recommendation of Urban Tech and Repair when, during the second-to-last week of my son's second-to-last high school year, a classmate of his accidentally trampled the USB drive where he had been saving his entire year's worth of school work, including for a high-stakes cumulative portfolio project. The drive was in pieces--with what looked like a snapped motherboard--but Tobyn at Urban Tech & Repair generously offered to look at it right way. He devised a creative and effective solution, executed a surgically precise soldering job (most of the motherboard used for grounding had snapped off), transferred my son's year's worth of writing projects to a new USB drive, and returned the data safely to us within less than 24 hours (and for an infinitely lower-than-expected price). In addition to Tobyn's technical and mechanical knowhow and his precision work, he was very kind and cordial, and his communication about the project was exceptional. For my own less urgent USB drive situation, Tobyn showed me what was going on that made it impossible to repair at their shop (manufacturer's design) and referred me to a company out of area that he would recommend to recover that data and let me know the ballpark cost that the other place would probably charge for that kind of work. In sum, Urban Tech & Repair was super effective, straightforward, professional, and offered a level of customer service and human warmth that far exceeded my expectations. While in the shop, I also noticed that they have a variety of refurbished laptops and PCs for sale at really good prices, as well. Urban Tech & Repair is the kind of local gem of a business that we should be supporting to have a better time in our community, so it's likely that I'll also shift to buying our new (used) future tech equipment there going forward. Sincere big thanks to Tobyn and to Urban Tech & Repair! You saved my son's school year.
Sent my computer as well as some parts over there for some upgrades & repairs due to thermal throttling. All the other upgrades were done adequately, aside from the main issue of thermal throttling. When I got it back, benchmarks showed worse throttling than before, so I took it to another shop for another opinion since I needed the computer working soon. That shop found that the CPU cooler was installed with the red plastic film still on the bottom of the cooler. It was never peeled off, so the thermal paste wasn't doing anything and the CPU was still overheating like before. The shop also used an excessive amount of thermal paste. It was smeared well past the edges of the CPU and onto the socket bracket (see photos). The second shop had to clean all of it off before redoing the job right.
Lugo Dominguez provided excellent service for a computer glitch yesterday. I highly recommend him for computer repairs and sales. He has helped me several times and is always polite, knowledgeable, helpful, and effective. He takes the time to answer questions and makes the whole process easy. I’ve always had a very positive experience and appreciate his reliable service!
I went in to see if they had a M2 screw as I was replacing my PCs ssd and didn’t have one. When I went in Tobin was super friendly and able to help! While I was there he answered a bunch of questions for another customer (and she asked every question under the sun) and through the whole thing he was friendly and helpful. When it got to me I explained what I needed and he said he had a couple spare screws that I could just have. It was great being able to go in to a local place instead of having to order online and wait. Instead I got to meet Tobin and find a great local place for future business.
Came in needing a broken bike wire soldered and the service at Urban Tech & Repair Shop was excellent. Fast turnaround, great communication, and they fixed everything perfectly. Super knowledgeable and helpful staff especially Tobyn who helped me. Highly recommend if you need quick and reliable repairs!
