University Diner is the kind of place that reminds you why diners still matter. The food is consistently good, the service is friendly and fast, and the prices make you wonder if they accidentally time-traveled here from 2004. You can actually eat a full meal without having to refinance your car. Now let’s talk about the coffee. Wow. Incredible. Historic, even. If NASA ever needs a liquid capable of stripping paint off a rocket while simultaneously waking up an entire zip code, they should study this brew immediately. One sip and I could suddenly hear colors and remember passwords I forgot in 2017. It’s less “coffee” and more “life event.” Honestly though, that’s part of the charm. The staff keeps the cups full, the breakfast hits every time, and the whole place feels comfortable in the best possible way. If you want fancy avocado foam art, go somewhere else. If you want good food, good people, and coffee strong enough to restart your heart, University Diner delivers.
It was good to have a pleasant flashback into the past of quality service and food! The staff was very friendly and attentive. The quality of the food was far greater than expected and my coffee was flowing like a river. My wife and son also a tested to the food tasted as good as it looked.
No complaints. Food and service were great and the prices were reasonable. Also - it's right at the Jacksonville University gate so we'll be eating breakfast here anytime we're in town visiting our JU Midshipman. Y'all please do the same.
Perfect old school Diner. Painted ceiling tiles are a nice touch. Located just outside the entrance to Jacksonville University. Students and faculty come here for real home cooked meals. Our party of 3 no waiting on a Busy Sunday morning
Long story short... Yes! I was on the hunt for fried chicken but I noticed that everyone was going into this diner and I'm glad I followed the crowd. I had the seafood platter with the Cajun wings (they didn't make the photo op because I literally gobbled them up too fast - the fish almost didn't make it either). The diner was clean and organized, like it was busy on a Sunday afternoon and the staff were so friendly and handled everything well. What I loved most was the seasoning was so balanced. Not too anything which is rare some places. Being a Carolina girl the only thing I would've liked was some more vinegar or smoked meat in the greens but they were tender so it worked for me. Everyone around me seemed happy. The mimosas looked great ( I didn't drink) and you could tell there were many regulars in the room. Make it a place to visit when you pass through Jacksonville.
