Uncle Willie’s Southern Bistro Review I happened upon this quaint little restaurant off Dunn Avenue while I was out shopping, so I decided to stop in. The restaurant is very small, but it offers indoor seating with music playing. I also had the opportunity to speak with the owner, who told me they had been open for about 10 months. I originally wanted to order the oxtails, but I was told they would be available later in the day. Instead, I chose the ribs with yellow rice, black-eyed peas, and collard greens. I also ordered a slice of red velvet cake. The portions were generous, including the cake—there was enough food for two people. I took everything to go, and when I got home, I was starving and ready to dig in. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. On a scale of 1 to 5, I would rate the black-eyed peas a 2 and the collard greens a 2. The ribs were dry, which was especially disappointing because I had really been looking forward to them. The yellow rice also had very little flavor. The food is served cafeteria-style, so most items are not cooked to order. However, made-to-order options are available, including fried fish and other menu items. My meal came to about $29, which is reasonable considering the generous portions. However, based on this experience, I’m afraid I would not return for another meal.
I came here and seeing the pictures on the menu posted in the window by the front door the food looked good in the pictures. However I ordered an eight peace chicken meal. With two large sides, rice and cornbread. I'll start with a cornbread. It was three quarters of an inch thick and about two inches around. very floppy.. And tiny literally One bite. Now to the sides , large side was not large in my book , especially with supposedly eight pieces of chicken. When? I go somewhere and I ask for 8 pieces of chicken.I expect two breasts, two wings, two thighs, and two legs. If you're not gonna give me that , then I expect you to tell me. Instead, they charged me for one breast, 1 thigh, 1 leg And all the rest wings. I wondered how they fit an eight piece chicken in a regular to go box but didn't open it until I got in my car , when I went back in , I told them they need to tell people when they give them a wing order instead of eight pieces of chicken. The man said ok and the lady looked at me like she could not believe i waa upset so i walked out and left since they didnt care. All that being said see said pictures of the "fried chicken" whybis it red and where id the breading? everything tasted awful. I paid 30? For food and threw it away 😩 not to mention the pool of grease yuck
Customer service was great the food Is HORRIBLE. I hate even having to leave this review but they are charging people for food I wouldn’t even feed to my dog. I spent $70 total for some spoiled yams over cooked rice burnt fish and overall poor quality food and the only solution was to remake the food. Which was a nice gesture but after receiving those first plates I wouldn’t dare eat there again.
First, I rarely write reviews, but I felt it was important to share my experience in hopes that it would serve as constructive feedback for this black owned restaurant to do better moving forward. Im going to give you the truth - the good and the bad. The customer service was really good for the most part. My overall issue is that the prices of the food don’t match the quality or the quantity. We paid almost $50 for barely any food. I ordered the Catfish platter, it came with 2 sides (yams/cabbage) and white rice. The yams were just okay, not bad, not great. The cabbage was delicious and very well seasoned. Now, the Catfish was fried well and hot, however they gave me one SMALL piece of Catfish. In almost all soul food platters Ive ever had, they at least give you 2 pieces of fish. The sides were a bit skimpy in portion as well. For almost $18.99 + tax, thats unacceptable. They gave us a small piece of cornbread, it was moist but not that tasty. We purchased a slice or Strawberry cake - the cake and icing were good but it needed a lot more icing . The cake slice was thick, so it needed more than one layer of icing on top. My boyfriend got a fried chicken basket - and the chicken was tasty and hot, but he ordered 3 pieces and only got 2 . I think the lady at the front was a bit confused. She did let him know that the drinks were free refills and the Arnold Palmer was so good.
Extremely great customer service for my first visit to Uncle Willie’s Southern Bistro. Everyone was super welcoming and helped with any questions I had about the menu. Everything was cooked fresh to order, perfect crunch and nicely seasoned. The sides were also magnificent! I will be back soon!
