This place was my freaking home in my 3 years I was here when I transferred to UNF back in 2023. I recently graduated and am working right now. I remember the good times here with my classmates, collaborating on projects, just yapping, and the times I was here for HOURS in a day, studying for my exams and just learning more and more of the concepts. and just the people too. there are a LOT of really smart people I’ve met too. Sometimes people leave their work on the whiteboards and you can see the crazy concepts they’re studying lmao. Like for instance you’ll see concepts from differential equations or like calc 3 on the board and just go “what the heck am I looking at lol.” I also saw some people leave cool artwork on them during finals szn. Oh yeah, finals szn it gets paaaacked in the library. But that’s like every uni lmao. All in all, I met so many awesome people here at Tommy G’s that I am still connected with to this day. The staff are amazing people too, Bill is one of the coolest ppl I met in the library, he’s an awesome person. We always say what’s up to each other haha.

The Carpenter Library at UNF is a great place to study 📖 - very spacious and I really like the extended hours - closing at 3:30am, and no limits to how long you can stay. You're welcome to study when you fill out the form by scanning the QR code on your right at the gate, and show your I.D or driver's license to confirm your name. Unless you're a current student, you can't do much aside from using the study areas, you can't have access to anything else. In my opinion, based on my experience, I think Tuesdays and Wednesdays are apparently the busiest days, as it was hard to find a parking and studying spot, and the second floor is the noisiest. If you're a student from another institute or out of state, with your own device, this is a great place to study.
The hours are subject to the University so check the website first. You will also need to go there to reserve a room. The floors are for different purposes and there are signs when you walk in. It can be packed on the second floors but they have all the public use computers. If you stop by the desk you can use your student ID to check out a laptop. The 3rd and 4th floors are the quiet ones and they have study sections throughout and even between the shelves.
Law enforcement are very rude to out of campus visitors, it's not a pleasant trip going into those doors during after hours. Be prepared to be pulled over if you don't look "rich" or fit in the environment. Other than that, place is very clean, people are very nice and friendly and staff are always on their job.
As an alumnus of the University of North Florida, graduating in 2002, I still find myself coming back to the Thomas G. Carpenter Library. Just the other day, I used the copy machine there, and I’m reminded of how valuable this space continues to be, even long after graduation. I especially appreciate the reflexology chart outside the library — it reminds me of why Jesus washed feet and how He, like His earthly father Joseph, was also a carpenter. The library’s name carries that deeper reflection for me: a place built on knowledge, service, and care.
