Tariq Gulzar has poor bedside manner when it comes to dealing with worried or concerned parents. Took my son in yesterday because he’s has a stomach virus for 10 days and was getting worse instead of better. Tariq did order labs (reluctantly) and for that I am grateful but over all he made feel like I was dumb for even bringing my son in and a 10 day stomach virus is completely normal. When I asked him questions he was a complete smart ass and I made sure to have my son’s chart notated to never see Tariq again. If it is completely normal for kids to have stomach bugs for multiple weeks then I’ll accept that but rather than telling me “your son looks great” with an attitude, try something like “ma’am i completely understand your concerns, hopefully this is just a bug but we are going to do what we can to get to the bottom of his issues.” Simple as that. I do not recommend you see this guy if you have a sick baby.
Dr. Gulzar is an amazing pediatrician. Very knowledgeable, exhibits the willingness to explain things in a easy to understand manner. Builds empathy & rapport with children & parents. I recommend him highly based off his performance!
Took my daughter in to OPP. We have loved every Doctor & Nurse Practitioner in all of the locations, so I did not think twice to have my daughter be seen by a new doc. My daughter has a history of severe ear infections without presenting. (No pain, No fevers) and very small sinuses ear canals. So whenever she has a bad cold, I treat with over the counter meds but if it lasts longer than 4-6 days I take her in to have her ears checked. My daughter has already lost part of her hearing from these infections, so I'm freaked out and try to stay on top of it, as to not cause further damage. I brought her in & explained to Dr. Gulzar of her past history & my concerns. I will say he did listen initially... but when he started the exam he popped the instrument quickly in and out of her ear. I told him, in the past we've been told you need to manipulate her ear (pulling the top or lobe) to see it fully because of how her ears have been damaged and how narrow they are. He then looked at me and said 'I don't discredit your education, but I'm the doctor & I've had a lot of training & can see better than you can.' I was shocked! I also explained to him that she's had a really deep sounding & wet cough. He listens to her heart and the top of the lungs near the shoulders, never lower. He tells me she has a 'little' fluid in the left ear, but it 'seems to be' drying up. The cough may linger for another week, but should go away soon. (She has been sick now for almost a week) He gives her a prescription cough med enough for a couple of days and sends her home. Despite my Mama instincts & you know the 11 years of being her Mom & knowing something is off, I chalked it up to being over protective because of her past history. We start the meds that day and finish them. Her cough is only getting worse and she is now becoming sluggish and not the same happy little girl. I take her in again to see her NP who has caught every ear infection she's ever had. He looks and clearly sees both of her ears are severely infected and that 'little cough" was bronchitis on the verge of pneumonia!! My daughter almost ended up in the hospital, because of this man. All because he was the 'Doctor' and had a 'better education'. Pride is an awful thing. Bedside manner is what today's MDs are lacking, had you taking the time to listen or even looked at her history you would've seen it in her notes. Funny how the NP & Mama were able to catch something, I should put an MD next to my name now I guess?!? Do Better.
Great pediatrician, I am personally extremely picky about the care is provided to my family. Dr. Gulzar is a great addition to our family care providers especially with our son's ADHD needs.
After seeing Dr. Gulzar, my 4 year old granddaughter stated that she really liked that doctor. I agree but would add he is very competent and explains conditions etc. very well.
