Exceedingly pleasant staff. Food is HONESTLY homemade. We both got the Combo 2, which is an entree and two sides, a drink, and a piece of cornbread for $15. We also got the banana pudding. O.M.G. I got the deep fried pork chop with biscuit and macaroni and cheese. The pork chop was thin and the mister moist pork chop I think I've ever eaten. The biscuit was layered flaky with honey glazing. The macaroni and cheese is ACTUALLY homemade, and the single best ice ever had at a restaurant. Period. My wife got the fried fish, mashed potatoes, and collard greens. I'm not a greens guy, so I didn't try that, but she said it was fantastic, with bacon in it. The masked potatoes were creamy. I prefer lumpy with peels but that is simply a matter of preference. If you like creamy, these are fantastic. I don't like fish, but this was absolutely wonderful. The banana pudding used maybe a Cool Whip added in our something that made it light and airry, with real fresh bananas. Sweet Mama's is a much better cook than my mama ever was. A MUST try in Eastern Jacksonville.
Listen... don't sleep on Sweet Mama's! We spent the day soaking up the history on Amelia Island and came looking for some real food. Funny thing is, two folks at a local museum had never even heard of this spot. Their loss! I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, and collard greens. My wife got the smothered turkey wings with yellow rice and collards. And that pineapple lemonade? Whew... it hit! Everything came out hot, fresh, seasoned just right, and the portions were on point. Add in the old school and new school R&B playing in the background, plus a staff that treats you like family, and you've got a whole vibe. Some places get all the hype. Sweet Mama's just lets the food do the talking. Trust me... pull up hungry.
We had a great experience here. The place was clean. The staff were very cool and were super patient with us as we were ordering here for the first time. They gave some excellent recommendations. It was a really nice vibe and we enjoyed everything we ordered.
I had a meatloaf plate with Mac n cheese & collards as my two sides and I overalled really enjoyed it everything was well seasoned and you can tell the food was made with care … the Mac n cheese especially was very delicious the yellow rice cooked perfectly and the meatloaf itself tasted great , the only thing I would mention is that the meatloaf was a little cold toward the middle it could’ve been been hotter especially since I ended up dining in instead of taking Togo . Other than thattt the atmosphere was great! The music was nice the vibe was chill and I had a nice experience overall I’d definitely come back and try a few of the other options else on the menu
Wife was craving meatloaf and I wanted to avoid a chain restaurant so this is where we went. We loved the food and would go back again. We had the meatloaf, fried chicken, and fried ribs. All were extremely tasty but the Mac n cheese was the best I had in Jax. Will return.
