My son and I tried this place after hearing good reviews and it did not disappoint! The food was well seasoned, perfectly prepared and very flavorful. I had the fried chicken and it was piping hot and crispy as could be. The dinner comes with cornbread which was the sweet version and delicious. The collard greens were smoky and perfectly seasoned and the potato salad had just a touch of dull, I think and was very good. My son had the meat loaf and thought it was great. You can pick rice or mashed potatoes with it and it comes with gravy. He had the yams and they were sweet without being too syrupy. The Mac and cheese was like my husband’s granny used to make - baked and full of cheese. We split the banana pudding which was a nice ending to the meal. Although the place uses counter service the staff was very helpful and friendly and brought the food out and checked on us too. They also run special pricing on the fried chicken in the afternoons and offer a senior discount and a cash discount. If you like good southern cooking this is the place to go!
I am not sure if this place counts as a "hole in the wall" but I will say that we all know that hole in the wall places have the most surprising food. I got the ox-tail plate with 2 sides. Let me say that no one beats grandmas ox-tail however for a place that you can just walk in & order, this is a solid choice. I have passed by here plenty of times, but only just recently came in. The flavors were great! Ox-tail over white rice, collard greens, baked beans & cornbread. These days grandma only makes ox-tail on special occasions, so this place is a solid choice for any random day of the week.
This place was LEGIT so good. We got in 30 minutes before they closed and glad we got to try them out. As you can see in the video, my kids dug in before I even got a video. You can tell that they do their best with serving their customers. They place the foil to separate the fried from their sides so it doesn't get soggy. That speaks VOLUMES, that they care to think through their plating. Their cornbread is on point. Fried chicken was so crispy and perfectly seasoned. Meatloaf, fish and smothered pork chops were all so amazing. Collard greens, mashed potatoes, string beans and Mac and cheese were all so good. The guy taking the order was mannered and service oriented. If you are in the area, you wouldn't regret stopping at Shut em down! 😜
Hubby and I ended up here by accident kind of, but so glad we did. The place is clean and welcoming. The service was super nice and helpful, and the food!! I have seen them on The Scoop FB channel, but didn't know they were close to where we were at the time, and the reviews were mostly outstanding, and I will say, they are now on our list and we will be back. Orders were Rib dinner with Mac and cheese and greens and my husband is not a fan a Mac n cheese and he said he would get this as a side , but all the other sides we had were so good. The cabbage, the potato salad and the cornbread, all were great. Next time, the fried chicken, since that's what everyone talks about. The fish is outstanding!!!!
This was my first ever coming here , I found them off of a quick google search and decided since it look good ima go try it. The food was enjoyable, Great staff , wide selection with sides as well , prices were great as well , and food is made fresh with your order.
