Very interesting visit to a structure that dates back to the earliest periods of habitation in the area. Self proclaimed “oldest house” the tour is of a small compound with several buildings to explore. There is a simple, small, but thoughtfully curated museum with interesting exhibits in the main house. The grounds are equally interesting with good examples of Quoquina architecture and nicely landscaped grounds. Throughout the house there are many period specific pieces that lend authenticity to the experience. We spent about an hour walking around. Notably, in the gift shop there’s a couple of book shelves with donated books for the museum to sell as a means of fundraising. I found a few interesting volumes and purchased a book on the history of Lake County Florida. Definitely a worthwhile visit!
This is a very cool house to visit with a lot of history. We opted for the guided tour (included with admission) and we are glad we did. It lasted about a half an hour. We learned so much more about the house and its history than we would have walking through on our own. They have a free parking lot on site to use while visiting and we had no trouble parking our dually truck. This is also a stop on the trolley tour.
Thankful that we still have historical sites such as this that we can learn about our nation's history. Friendly staff and interesting tour. We had to do the self guided but I would have preferred a guided experience.
A nicely restored Historical Property with a very friendly staff and very reasonably priced gift shop. As someone who appreciates antiques and collectibles, this place was hard to resist. A must visit!
The exhibits were very interesting, and the garden scenery was just amazing. I loved everything about this place, it was definitely worth it and would recommend to anyone visiting St. Augustine.
