Disappointing Downslide from a Former Regular We used to love this restaurant when they were across the street, and everything was always great. Unfortunately, after our experience tonight at the new location, we won’t be back. This was a massive mistake on our part. When we first arrived, the restroom door was being held open, causing the entire area to smell heavily of Lestoil floor cleaner, which was not a great start to a meal. The Service: Slow, Inattentive, and Sarcastic It took 15 minutes just to get our drinks, which were incorrect because we ordered Coke Zero and received Diet Coke. After waiting another 20 minutes just to order food, a heavier-set waitress asked if we had ordered yet. When I explained we had only gotten drinks but hadn't had the opportunity to order meals, she snapped, "Well then you placed your order," and walked away. She was unbelievably sarcastic and unprofessional. If she is part-owner, that explains the lack of accountability. Our actual waitress vanished after taking our order, and no one checked on us once the food was dropped off. The Food: A Total Letdown After a 35-minute wait, the food finally arrived. While the presentation was okay, despite white plastic plates and beans served in to-go cups, the execution was terrible. Both pernil dishes, one with white rice and black beans, and one with arroz con gandules and red beans, were served completely cold. We also ordered the Kan Kan Sola special, which looked great, but the meat portion was extremely dry and overcooked to the point of being inedible. Because our waitress ignored us and we refused to deal with the unprofessionalism of the other server, we couldn't even get the food sent back. When I finally told the waitress the food was cold at the end, all she offered was a hollow apology. Final Thoughts We didn't leave a gratuity, because why reward a server who did absolutely nothing to fix a bad situation? Management needs to realize that just because you are busy right now, you cannot afford to treat customers like they don't matter. In Jacksonville, the restaurant scene is highly competitive and there are always newer, cleaner, and better-serviced places opening up. One disappointed couple might not matter to you today, but poor service and cold food will catch up to you. I wish you luck, but we are done.
The empanadas alone are worth the stop. They’re packed with flavor, and the 3 for $10 deal is hard to beat. There’s a nice variety of options, and they’ll even make more if they run out. The soup was a strong runner-up—it was served in a unique pot that helped keep it warm and added a nice touch. If you’re in a hurry or don’t want to sit down, they also offer a food bar where you can choose what you want and have it packaged to go, which is a convenient option. They do have desserts as well, but those felt overpriced for what you get. The restaurant itself is thoughtfully designed and works well for all types of occasions. There’s plenty of seating and a bar positioned in the center, giving the space a lively but comfortable feel. Overall, it’s a great place to stop by when you’re craving flavorful, satisfying latin food.
I ordered baked chicken and received fried chicken. I was initially disappointed but said ok, Ill eat it anyway since it was delivered. Well the thigh was so hard, I couldn't even eat it and the drumstick was borderline dry. Needless to say, not a good experience.
They did the catering for my wedding and we decided to go visit the location after! Loved the food at our wedding and loved the food at the location! We went last Saturday for a mini family reunion. I briefly mentioned my husband’s bday in passing and totally forgot about it. They brought out a pava and started singing to him! It was great and so much. The atmosphere is very lively. The service is like visiting someone’s house and being among family. We had Mary taking care of us and she was so sweet, kind and thoughtful. We had an amazing time! We will be back!!! Also the parcha sangria 🤤🤤🤤🤤
The sandwiches, food and deserts were great...Will definitely come back...
