Johnny Angel’s Diner is such a fun throwback to the 1950s and a great spot on Jacksonville’s Southside, near the University of North Florida. From the moment you walk in, the retro decor, classic Hollywood memorabilia, and spinning jukebox create a nostalgic diner atmosphere that feels warm and inviting. The food is just as enjoyable as the setting. They serve classic comfort food along with all-day breakfast favorites, including fluffy omelets, scratch-made pancakes, French toast, and hearty country fried steak. Their burgers are hand-formed and never frozen, and the Reuben is another standout, packed with plenty of flavor. And you definitely want to save room for one of their hand-dipped milkshakes or malts. With 11 flavors to choose from, there’s something for every sweet tooth. The service was friendly, attentive, and quick, which made the whole experience even better. Johnny Angel’s is the kind of family-owned diner where good food, friendly service, and a fun atmosphere come together. A great place to enjoy some classic comfort food with a side of nostalgia!
Enter the time warp after stepping out of your Time Machine. Everything that you would expect from a 1950s themed makes you fall in love with the nostalgia of the 50s. The burger was tasty and the fries were nice and meaty. Definitely worth every bite and the milkshake made me a happy customer.
Hubby had the Baton Rouge Omelette. He was not impressed. I had the Classic Philly Flat Steak Sandwich. Overall it tasted good, but the meat to bread ratio was off. WAY more bread than there was meat. Service was fast and friendly. Atmosphere is great if you're into 50's diner type vibe.
Atmosphere needs 6-Stars! If you love the 1950's Diner Life - Poodle skirt skidattle down here and shimmy up a plate. It took 10 seconds to get a table and 8 minutes to get our food from the time of ordering it. I got the waffle & eggs with turkey sausage. The strawberries, bananas and whip cream made it extra delicious. I'm leaving this review later in the day while eating the left overs... and man, it's good while cold too! I'm just in a hurry or I'd great it up in the toaster oven. I didn't need any syrup on my waffle. They have some much flavor already as is. They give a tall glass of water and i asked for a lemon wedge. Music playing and a lot of cool stuff to look at all over. If you are interested in a six foot statute of Elvis Presley, they have one here right at the front. They have a lot of desserts to choose from. The place was filled up and a lot of people coming in to what i think was pick up orders. I enjoyed my food and it looked that way for everybody else - So, make this place a must of you like good food and a 1950's feel diner. They have been open for decades for a reason.
The decor is very cool and the servers are very friendly. They are super overworked though.. there's always food sat in the window of the kitchen waiting to go out.. sometimes as many as 5 plates.. sat getting cold. They need some help, they just can't get through it all. Means your food does turn up a little less fresh then it could and there is a rushed feeling.
