This place and these people proved to me my belief that DBT and its providers are patronizing and condescending. They have college students teaching "skills" that you must attend.. When I expressed my skepticism about this kind of "therapy" being effective to the provider, her solution was to "take it slow" and basically not do any therapy whatsoever, and just repeated things like "I wish I would've met you sooner" / "it's not your fault your little nervous system was born on fire" and of course a DBT classic, trying to find something from childhood or in my parents' behavior to explain why I am the way I am. The one time the provider actually shared a "skill" for me to try when I explained that I was anxiety ridden and chronically suicidal, she had me put an ice pack on my chest and take a few deep breaths, then asked me how I felt. I felt the same as before, but cold on my chest. This is apparently the "science backed" help one can expect from DBT. Finally, when I asked for a referral to a provider who practices something other than DBT, I was given a link to "RO - DBT" (Radically Open DBT). Basically the same. Then met with silence so no referral. If this is the best treatment available, it's no wonder the suicide rate is so high in people with BPD. Proceed with caution, if at all, and make sure to be compliant, without voicing doubts or asking questions.
