Loved the atmosphere and decor, food not so much. I heard mixed reviews so really interested to see for myself. The ambiance was great and they have a private seating room (indoor and outdoor) you can book (minimum bill amount must be met). Bathroom was clean and service was fast and friendly. But the food was subpar. Ordered lasagna and unfortunately I compared to chef boyardee! Sauce was not flavored, lasagna pasta was thin..lasagna itself looked single layered .. very few sausage, not enough cheese. Table side bread was bread brought to your table and they lit a candle on the butter (no hoopla there). We had a large group. Food came out pretty fast which surprised me and not in a good way. 1 person ordered etouffe and another ordered gumbo with fried chicken and plates looked exactly same, very confused. Grits from the shrimp and grits were thick and chunky (not smooth and creamy), .. I think the crab cakes were good. And someone ordered the quarter chicken , presentation was nice. If I were just meeting up to have a meeting and chit chat, yes.. but to actually eat, think I would pass. For that price point, I would expect better results. We went at 6pm so parked on the street where it was free at that time. They did have a parking lot for restaurant but I believe you had to pay by the hr. Not sure but there’s a posted sign to tell you.
Here's a revised review: We had an amazing time at Dorthy’s Downtown! 😍 Started with the appetizers Boudin Balls & Deviled eggs were a game-changer. Main course did not disappoint: BBQ shrimp & grits was a flavor explosion, and the fried chicken & gumbo stole the show for my husband and son. Save room for dessert the banana bread pudding was to die for (we got two servings!) and the Beignets transported us straight to NOLA! 🌟 Cocktails were on point too. Chef's table visit was the icing and loved how they cared about the experience. ❤️Can't wait to be back (and try the Elk Rack next time!) 🍴
I’m so glad I came in to enjoy the food. Great company, great service. Our waiter had a sense of humor and made us feel welcomed instead of rushed, which I’ve experienced at other restaurants downtown. We even got to enjoy a show of them making the bananas foster. We will certainly be back
Dorothy’s was such a good time! Great atmosphere, absolutely delicious food, and the service at the bar was fantastic. We ate, we drank, we laughed, we ordered more food than necessary… as one should. 😂 Definitely a place we’ll be coming back to!
This was my first time. I lucked up with a parking space in front and didn't have to pay because it was a Sunday. There is a side parking lot you can pay to park in as well. We got there at 3pm and decided to do happy hour on the patio because it was a nice day. I had the crabcake appetizer and deviled eggs. Both were so good. I had the creo pasta for dinner and it was absolutely delicious. My friend had gumbo and even that was good. I chose the carrot cake for dessert and it was huge slice big enough for three people. I took alot of the food home and it tasted even better later. I had a great experience overall 10 outta 10. All the food was amazing. I can't wait to go back.
