Went for the first time with friends to see Paul van Dyk this weekend to celebrate my 49th. One of our party uses a wheelchair and the front door/security staff was UNBELIEVABLY accommodating! (We arrived fairly early - 10 pm - so that probably made it easier for the special treatment.) They ushered us upstairs to a section that would ensure he had an excellent view of the stage. Lights and sound system seemed to be topnotch and the artists all exceeded our expectations. Oddly enough, it reminded me of the Freebird Live experiences back in the day, but with a more upscale environment. Will definitely be returning for specific artists...
Did the 30+ day shift and danced all night. Music and crowd were awesome! Everyone singing to old school hip-hop, 80s alternative, a little bit of 90s, some early 2000 Rapp it was the best.
Went to a Neko Case concert here. Maybe it was just the wrong vibe for her audience, but the club made a very sour impression on me. It was like somebody wanted to do a Miami thing in Jacksonville. The staff were generally friendly but very young/under experienced, and seemed to be hired more for their youth/looks than actual ability to do things like bar tend or provide clear security. The drinks were overpriced -- I've paid less for beers in NYC, Miami, Atlanta, etc. The sound and lighting were frankly terrible. The band would've sounded better without the PA system, I think. They have a bar upstairs, but it wasn't open. Both restrooms are upstairs. There were bathroom attendants in each bathroom too, which again, is really not a Jacksonville vibe. It's possible that I'm just not the right audience for this place, although to be fair, I can have fun in any place that seems to have a genuine identity. This place is soulless.
To be honest, the music here was really good and the overall vibe was nice. However, there's a big issue with the bouncers at the entrance. They run a bit of a scam where they tell you the club is sold out just to make you pay a much higher price in cash to get in. If you do make it inside, the first floor is extremely crowded, but it’s actually nice because there is a great mix of so many different kinds of people. The second floor is nothing special, but the rooftop is really pleasant and a great spot to just sit down and chill. Overall, it gets a 3 out of 5 because the music, the rooftop, and the atmosphere are definitely worth it, you just have to be ready for the drama at the door.
I went to Decca Live once and had a solid experience overall. The venue itself is really nice—good layout, strong sound, and a fun atmosphere that works well for a night out in Jacksonville. The music was decent and the energy picked up as the night went on. It definitely feels like a place where the vibe depends on the crowd and the event, but when it’s going, it’s a good time. What stood out most was the overall social atmosphere. It’s the kind of spot where people go out to have fun, enjoy the night, and just be in a lively environment. Overall, I’d say it’s a good nightlife option and worth checking out, especially if you’re looking for a modern club-style experience downtown.
