Coastal Health Primary Care - Orange Park

The entire team is new & all the previous people have gone. I saw a new doctor who was v nice but I got royally screwed by these guys and have tried desperately to reach someone to no avail. I don't have insurance so am very cautious that I know all costs, on a recent visit the medical asst said I wld hv to go to Labcorp for a test, I said I wld have to make sure I had the funds & wld contact them. I told her several times how worried I was about the costs. Well without asking me, she sent off my sample despite us knowing what was wrong with me. I did not giver her permission to do this & was insistent I would have to check the price first. I then got a bill for nearly $200 from the testing center!!! To this day, nearly 5 weeks later, Coastal have never ever contacted me to let me know the results of the test, yet I'm stuck w a big bill. I got much more sick & contacted the doctor via email, the medical asst answered & rang me & I told her I thought I was getting much worse & needed further antibiotics. I rang several times more & all they cld offer was an appt over 7 days away. So off to Urgent Care, who saved me. I was very ill & got sepsis, without Carespot I would not have made it. Carespot sent off my sample, charged me $30!!!!!!! For the SAME exact test. The same test that Coastal had me charged almost $200, without my approval. Or knowledge. I contacted the testing center, who were v kind and lovely, they told me that Coastal had coded it in a way that resulted in the nearly $200 charge and they could not change it. So in the midst of recovering from sepsis > I again reached out to Coastal & was promised a manager would contact me. Nothing & it's been almost a week. I urge you think carefully before going here. It used to be a great place and I miss the old staff so much. It's sad to see what's happened there.

I was completely disappointed with Dr. Edwards. Then I had a nurse practitioner I really wasn’t fond of, and I came back a third time, hoping things would improve before I stopped showing up altogether. Instead, I met Dr. Somai, who turned out to be a good experience—definitely very smart and attentive. I also mentioned to him the frustration I’d had in the past. It’s good that someone higher up made a smart decision.

Everything about my experience was great, but the doctor specifically stood out. After 20 long years of navigating VA bureaucracy, language barriers, and dealing with female practitioners for issues they simply couldn't fully relate to, it was incredibly refreshing to sit down with a male doctor who understood exactly what I was going through. He got right to the root of the specific male problems I’m having without any of the usual runaround. Just having another man look me dead in the eye and give me a straightforward "yes" or "no" was exactly the kind of direct care I needed.

My first time meeting my new primary doctor. He made me feel very comfortable, considering I was very nervous. He was clear and thorough on how he was going to help me with my issues. He explained my diagnosis and treatment plans which made it easy to understand. He was proactive on a follow-up and I feel grateful to have him as my doctor.
