This place was packed when we arrived around 8 p.m. on a Tuesday, which is usually a good sign. The menu is extensive, and it took me a while to decide because there were so many options. We ended up ordering the Badam Milk (spiced almond milk), Onion Uttapam, Chowrastha Spicy Goat Curry, and Kadai Chicken. We like to note that the Badam milk wasn’t too sweet 👍 It was my first time trying uttapam, a fluffy South Indian pancake made from fermented rice flour batter and topped with onions. It came with a few different chutneys and dipping sauces. By itself, the flavor was quite mild, but it was delicious when dipped into the goat curry and soaked up the flavorful sauce. The Chowrastha Spicy Goat Curry is authentic Indian spicy, so if you’re not used to the heat, I’d suggest ordering it mild or medium. I loved it—the goat was tender, and the curry had plenty of depth and flavor. The Kadai Chicken had a rich tomato-based gravy with hints of ginger and aromatic Indian spices. Overall, we had a great dining experience. There are still plenty of dishes on the menu that I’d love to come back and try. I also love that they’re open until midnight, making it a great option for a late-night meal. 👍
So happy & appreciative to have this restaurant in town! The menu has every or endless options and the packaging is thoughtful with all the condiments. Truly street style. There’s also a pani puri stall with no pressure of how much eat as it’s addictive. I like the announcements and how active it is, it’s so fun! They have a combination of north & south or East Indian options, including popular street food like aloo tikki and paneer pakoras that are hard to find in this part of the country that are more south inspired. It’s the perfect location in between counties and the highway. Love the flexible or late hours. It will also be across the new Patel Brothers and can’t wait.
One of the most anticipated restaurants has finally opened in Jacksonville, and if you’re a food lover, you have to visit. Conveniently located in the heart of St. Johns and Bartram Park, it’s an easy spot to enjoy great Indian food. I’ve tried their biryani, fast food, snacks, street-style dishes, and everything was delicious. The pani puri was especially amazing, super flavorful and a must-try. Their desserts were also excellent. This is definitely a great place for food lovers looking to explore a variety of tasty Indian dishes. Tea lovers - make sure to try their Maska Bun.
If you’re searching for authentic Indian flavors in St. Johns, Desi Chowrastha Indian Eatery at 4590 Race Track Road is a true culinary treasure. From the first bite, it’s evident that this place is committed to uncompromising quality, freshness, and the rich essence of genuine desi cuisine. We indulged in an impressive spread — crispy samosas, delicious desi bondas, perfectly crafted dosa, golden vada, aromatic chicken dum biryani, flavorful shrimp curry, comforting dahi ki kadhi, and each dish delivered bold, satisfying flavors that felt both authentic and thoughtfully prepared. Every plate showcased traditional spices and quality ingredients without compromise. Their drinks deserve special recognition too. The mango lassi was smooth and refreshing, the chikku drink was unique and delightful, but the real standout was their Faluda — clearly a signature drink that shouldn’t be missed. Rich, refreshing, and indulgent, it perfectly complements the vibrant food menu. Desi Chowrastha offers more than just a meal — it delivers a flavorful journey through authentic Indian street food and regional favorites. If you value genuine taste, variety, and food made with care, this is a must-visit destination. A fantastic spot for anyone looking to enjoy true Indian cuisine in St. Johns. Highly recommended.
Finally got to try Chowrastha in St. Johns after hearing so much about it! We ordered their Onam Sadhya for takeout and it was so good it honestly made our Onam feel extra special. We also stopped by to dine in and the food was great. The only disappointing part was the cleanliness of the dining area. Our seats and table had oily stains and I had to clean them myself. Hopefully they can improve on that. Other than that, we really enjoyed the food and will definitely be back!
