Shirley is a great therapist. Her approach wasn’t necessarily for me but the few sessions we had I can tell she cares about her clients and truly tries - anyone who walks through those doors can count on having her undivided attention. My 3 star is solely because, as previously mentioned, her approach wasn’t for me - and upon communicating that, I felt she invalidated my experience and tried to boil it down to “transference” when that wasn’t the point I was trying to get across at all. I appreciate all the recommendations she gave me and value her efforts to help me find adequate care.
She is a fantastic therapist. I am going to start the more "heavy" therapy this month. Honestly, I couldn't recommend a more kind and calm therapist for anything. And thankfully, she keeps her life to herself, unlike my last therapist. I never accomplished anything with Dr. Stamey. If you need someone who knows her stuff, see Dr. Shirley. Even my psychiatrist raves about her skills, so I love that. So many good therapists have a solo practice. So do give her a call if you need someone who can help. Update Dr. Shirley is an amazing therapist. I'm so glad I found her. I'm even involving my mother in my therapy. (And my mother finally felt good truly after talking for part of a session) I truly think she is the best therapist and psychological doctor I have spoken to in my few years of multiple therapists. She's really professional and my psych loves her tools for patients at her disposal too. I only wish she could be my ketamine therapist. But I'm working on it. Don't hesitate to see her. You will not regret it. She's very open minded as all should be to. Also if she can get my mom to open up and see how therapy is a tool for coping, I feel she could work with anyone. Fact
