Question 1

How much does a trolley tour cost in St. Augustine?

Accepted Answer

Plan on roughly $35 to $45 per adult for a hop-on hop-off trolley pass, with kids around $15 to $25 and children under 5 or 6 often free. Passes usually cover one to three days of unlimited stops. Some bundle a museum or attraction, and some include parking at the operator's own lot, which matters on busy weekends.

Question 2

When is Nights of Lights and is it worth seeing?

Accepted Answer

Nights of Lights runs from the Saturday before Thanksgiving into late January, with millions of white lights across the historic district and the Bridge of Lions. Weeknights in early December and mid January are far less crowded than December weekends. Trolley and boat light tours sell out, so book two to three weeks ahead for those dates.

Question 3

Do I need to book St. Augustine tours in advance?

Accepted Answer

For ghost tours, boat trips and anything during Nights of Lights, spring break or holiday weekends, yes, usually a week or more ahead. Off season weekdays in late summer or February you can often walk up. The Castillo de San Marcos and the Lighthouse sell tickets on site, but the Lighthouse tower climb can hit capacity on busy afternoons.

Question 4

Are ghost tours in St. Augustine scary for kids?

Accepted Answer

Most are storytelling walks, not haunted houses, and operators generally say ages 8 and up do fine. Tours run after dark, last 60 to 90 minutes, and cover a mile or so on uneven pavement. A few add an indoor or jail segment that is more intense, so ask which stops are included if you have younger kids.

Question 5

What attractions are there outside the historic district?

Accepted Answer

Plenty. The St. Augustine Lighthouse and the Alligator Farm are on Anastasia Island, Marineland is south on A1A, Fort Matanzas is near Crescent Beach, and the World Golf Village area has its own attractions. Kayak and paddleboard guides launch from Vilano, the Guana reserve near Ponte Vedra, and Julington Creek. Fishing charters run out of Vilano, the Municipal Marina and Camachee Cove.

Question 6

Can tour companies pick up at my hotel or rental?

Accepted Answer

Some private tour and charter operators will pick up in St. Augustine Beach, Vilano and Ponte Vedra for an added fee or minimum group size. Big trolley and boat companies run from fixed stops. If you are in Nocatee or Palencia, assume you will drive in and ask the operator about their closest parking option.
