Question 1

How much is weekly pool service in St. Augustine?

Accepted Answer

Weekly full service with chemicals included typically runs 140 to 220 dollars per month in St. Johns County in 2026 for a standard residential pool. Chemical-only service is about 90 to 130 dollars per month. Larger pools, spas, screenless pools under oaks, and salt systems push prices up. Ask whether filter cleans and salt cell cleaning are extra.

Question 2

How much does it cost to resurface a pool in Florida?

Accepted Answer

Resurfacing a typical 12,000 to 15,000 gallon residential pool in St. Johns County runs about 7,000 to 11,000 dollars for standard plaster and 10,000 to 18,000 dollars for quartz or pebble finishes in 2026, including draining, prep and refill. New waterline tile adds 1,500 to 4,000 dollars. The job requires a licensed pool contractor and a permit. Plan it for cooler months when demand is lower.

Question 3

How much does a variable speed pool pump cost installed?

Accepted Answer

A variable speed pump installed by a licensed pool contractor runs about 1,400 to 2,400 dollars in St. Johns County. It typically cuts pool energy use by half or more compared to a single speed pump, so it usually pays back in two to three years at local electric rates. Check for JEA or FPL rebates, which come and go.

Question 4

Why does my pool turn green every summer?

Accepted Answer

Heat, afternoon rain and heavy swimmer loads burn through chlorine fast in Northeast Florida summers, and a few days of low chlorine is enough for algae. Pools under oaks and without screens are worst. Keeping stabilizer in range, running the pump eight to ten hours a day in summer and testing twice a week prevents most of it. A green-to-clean recovery service runs 250 to 600 dollars.

Question 5

Do I need a pool fence or alarm in St. Johns County?

Accepted Answer

Florida's Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act requires new pools to have at least one approved safety feature such as a barrier, approved cover, door alarms or a self-latching gate. Existing pools are not required to retrofit, but insurers and home sale inspections often raise it, and HOAs may have their own rules. A removable mesh fence runs 15 to 25 dollars per linear foot installed. Ask the building office for current requirements.

Question 6

How do I prepare my pool for a hurricane?

Accepted Answer

Do not drain the pool, since an empty shell can pop out of wet ground. Lower the water a foot or so if heavy rain is expected, turn off power to the equipment at the breaker, remove loose furniture and store or secure the pump cover and automation. After the storm, clear debris before restarting and shock the water. Most local services offer a post-storm cleanup for 150 to 400 dollars.
