Moving Companies in St. Augustine Beach, FL

How to choose a moving company in St. Augustine Beach

1. Verify the Florida mover registration

Any company moving household goods within Florida must be registered with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and show that number on advertising and paperwork. Interstate movers also need a USDOT number. Look the numbers up before you book. A company with neither is a van and two guys, and you have no recourse if your furniture ends up damaged or held.

2. Get a written estimate after a walk-through

Phone quotes for a four bedroom house in Nocatee are guesses. A real estimate comes after a video or in-person survey and lists the hourly rate, crew size, truck size, travel charge, and what counts as extra, such as stairs, long carries, or pianos. Florida law requires a written estimate before the move, so a company that will not provide one is a red flag.

3. Ask what happens on a rainy summer afternoon

From June through September it rains most afternoons. Good crews start at 7 or 8 am, bring floor runners and shrink wrap, and keep the truck backed up tight to the garage. Ask whether weather delays stop the clock on an hourly job and whether they will finish the same day if a storm pushes things back.

4. Match the truck to the street

A 26 foot truck cannot turn around on many downtown St. Augustine and Davis Shores streets, and some Vilano and Crescent Beach driveways are sand. Tell the company exactly where you are, including gate codes and any HOA rules about truck hours. Many Ponte Vedra condo buildings require an elevator reservation and a certificate of insurance before the crew arrives.

5. Understand the valuation coverage

Basic coverage from movers pays by the pound, often around 60 cents per pound per item, which is almost nothing for a flat screen or a dresser. Ask for full value protection pricing and check whether your homeowners or renters policy covers goods in transit. Take photos of furniture and electronics before the crew loads them.
