If you’re visiting St. Augustine, the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park is absolutely worth putting on your itinerary. This place is far more than just “an alligator park”—it’s a well-curated, educational, and genuinely fascinating experience for all ages. The highlight, of course, is the incredible collection of crocodilians. This is one of the very few places in the world where you can see all species of crocodilians in one location, from massive American alligators to rare and exotic crocodiles you’d otherwise never encounter. Seeing them up close is thrilling and eye-opening, and the staff does a great job explaining the differences, behaviors, and conservation efforts. Another standout is the bird rookery, especially in nesting season. Watching herons, egrets, spoonbills, and storks nesting just feet away is a peaceful and unforgettable experience—perfect for bird lovers and photographers. It’s one of those moments where you forget you’re in a tourist attraction and feel immersed in nature. For those looking for a little adrenaline, the zip-lining course over the enclosures adds a fun and unique twist, offering a bird’s-eye view you won’t get anywhere else. It’s optional, but it definitely elevates the experience for adventure seekers. Yes, ticket prices may feel a bit high for the overall size of the park, but the quality of the exhibits, the uniqueness of the collection, and the educational value make it a solid choice for a half-day visit. It’s an excellent day trip, especially for families, couples, or anyone curious about wildlife. While it may not be a must-repeat destination for frequent travelers, locals with an annual pass will find plenty of reasons to return. Bottom line: the St. Augustine Alligator Farm delivers a memorable, one-of-a-kind experience that blends wildlife, education, and fun—making it a worthwhile stop while exploring historic St. Augustine.
Great place to visit. They're family friendly and have a kids zone where the kids can do different activities. The gator feeding was a highlight of our visit. The best part for me was the pictures with a live baby gator. You got to hold the baby gator while the staff takes your picture. The staff are friendly and vey knowledgeable about all of the reptiles. They do have exotic birds as well. The place has been in business since 1890. Recommend this one if visiting St Augustine.
What a fantastic place! I was genuinely surprised at how great it is - it's well kept clean, and has great little shows. We've been to lots of Zoos and sanctuaries in many different states. This one is such a great little gem. It's really beautiful and has some really great animals. We've been several times and it never disappoints. We went during rookery season this time; what a delightful added surprise!
I was hesitant for a few days because of the cost. Finally broke down and was glad I did. We had so much fun. The employees were absolutely great and educational. You could tell they have really string connections with the animals, especially the lady with the giant turtles. If you have the chance definitely visit, you wont be disappointed at all.
We didn't know what to expect but we're very glad we went. While the day was dry and in the 70s, we enjoyed all of the tree canopies over the walkways. The bird nesting areas were unexpected to find, as were many of the animal exhibits. We stayed for the alligator feeding, about 10 minutes long, and very interesting to see. These animals have great instinct since they were lined up in the water waiting, long before there trainer arrived with their food.
