Watanut

We’ve always looked forward to stopping by Watanut whenever we have out-of-town guests visiting. The Blue Bell ice cream is great, and there are plenty of other fun and interesting items to browse as well. It’s usually one of our favorite little stops while wandering this stretch of FB. Unfortunately, our visit this past Saturday night was disappointing. The two girls working seemed completely absorbed in their own conversation with each other the entire time we were there — while dipping ice cream, taking our order, ringing us up, and even while we were paying. There was no greeting when we walked in, very little acknowledgment during the transaction, and no “thank you” or “have a good night” when we left. What made it especially uncomfortable was that their ongoing conversation and laughing back and forth across the store never really pausing long enough for them to engage with customers in a welcoming or professional way. It made the whole experience feel awkward and unwelcoming. We’ve always enjoyed visiting here, which is why this stood out so much. Hopefully it was just an off night, but it definitely will make us think twice about returning.

The cookies taste much better than they look. They look good but they taste great! I was surprised because usually when I buy cookies they don’t taste better than what I can bake at home but these are muuuuch better. So delicious. I already want more. I didn’t try the icecream this visit but maybe next time I’ll have an icecream cookie sandwich 🤤 They also sold come cute little treasures.

Cute little shop selling prepackaged nuts and shortbread cookies, but we come here for the ice cream cookie sandwiches. They are massive and delicious! Definitely a hidden gem here in Fernandina Four stars because I personally prefer super creamy (and probably higher fat LOL) ice cream but the cookie sandwich feature keeps us coming back. The cookies are the perfect mix of chewy and crunchy with just the right amount of add ins! You get to choose your cookie and your ice cream. Others we got were double chocolate cookie with mint ice cream, chocolate chip cookie and cookie dough ice cream, and chocolate chip cookie with chocolate ice cream. All were devoured instantly by my happy kids! The cookie sandwiches were $5.95 each.
