James is excellent at what he does. I’ve found him to be honest, fair priced and bery hard-working. We’ve used him for landscaping clean up and most recently for sod installation. He did the sod project in one afternoon and it looks FANTASTIC!!
We recently hired Upchurch Services to remove several plants that had been damaged in the winter frost. James was courteous, punctual and very reasonable priced. All of the work was completed on time and to our satisfaction.
Really pleased with their service. I would give them more stars if possible. Up church services is very responsive and always comes when they say they will. They give far competitive prices for very good work and never leave a stone unturned. I regularly use them to pressure clean my home/ driveway/ gutters and prune my landscape. They even installed the rock which was a hard job I’m thankful they took on. Don’t look anywhere else.
We contacted Upchurch Services about making our yard look well kept yet easy to maintain. A minimalist approach with quality items, beautiful pottery to hold hardy plants, set on river rock, balanced with sod to create a cohesive picture. His prices were very detailed and reasonable. He had a work plan that was well organized and he was very dedicated to finishing the project as planned. We were so pleased with his work that we hired him again right after finishing this job!
I did not have the best experience. I asked him to prune my clumping bamboo. It requires carefully cutting of some of the leaning and out of place stalks to form neat looking clusters. I explained this to him at our first meeting and it seemed like we were on the same page with everything. You have to go slow and work mindfully and look at things carefully to visualize how you will cut them and how it is going to look. I didn’t think he was being very careful. It seems as though he just started hacking away aggressively and cut a large portion of the clumps to about 4 feet off the ground. This particular section of bamboo only required having a few stalks strategically removed to shape them nicely. The other reason I was upset was that he just trampled through all my ferns and everything growing in the section in front of the bamboo and was not respectful and careful of the plants. You have to step carefully and treat the garden with care, you can’t just trample all over things aggressively, and just start hacking away at things without being very careful. I was shocked when I saw he had cut down my Oak Leaf hydrangea. It was already not doing great and I had been trying to nurture it until it gets better established, but I guess to him it looked like a weed, so he just hacked it down. Sometimes landscapers think it is preferable to work as fast as possible and think the more they cut down the more they have accomplished, but you actually accomplish more by working slowly and mindfully, and asking questions beforehand. Less is more and plants need to be treated in a respectful nurturing way, not aggressively attacked. There was a lack of communication about when he was going to be here. Then I found out he had just shown up and started cutting things before checking in with me which is concerning because I needed to go over a few rules I have for landscaping on my property first. Luckily I caught him in time before further damage could be done and asked him to leave. I always make sure I have a discussion with anyone doing yardwork before they get started to make sure I explain how things should be done and make sure they don’t cut or remove ANYTHING without verifying it with me first. He then proceeded to cuss me out. The next day I had to ask my contractor to fix the job. He agreed with me and said he didn’t understand why the guy had done this and that the guy had just gone to town and started hacking away with no thought as to what he was doing.
