Thrift Store Jacksonville, FL: RedHands Family Foundation

I often see this place recommend recommended, but after my experience there sometime ago, I do not recommend it. For one, the prices are fairly high for used items in a thrift store. Secondly, while I was in there sometime ago, they had a group of homeless people that were in there with vouchers to purchase clothes. From my understanding the voucher was only for $10 which limited them and what they could purchase with how high the prices were I also found that to be insulting considering the items are donated goods and they are a Christian establishment. . The biggest issue I had was as I was there an employee and someone at the register as well as as a customer that is known to the establishment we’re talking about homeless people negatively. They were making statements about how they are able to go to work and how they cannot understand how people cannot work a job. They spoke about all the job experience they had and how they could not sit around and not support themselves. I found that highly offensive and going against the values of this store. and it was quite clear they were making statements towards the people that were in there that they were supposedly helping. Not only did I find that disrespectful to those people there that they were supposed to be supporting. I found it highly inappropriate and not something I wanted to hear as I was supporting their business. I ended up putting my items down and leaving the store.

This place is amazing, not just because of the items available, but because the staff are extremely friendly, personable, and go beyond to make your experience worth the visit. Even with the sales, they still try to save you money! The owner, Israel is a great man running an amazing work environment, he also helps the community with food drives, and other services to those in need. Really, what’s not to like? Go check them out.
