Staff was great. Rooms were clean. Pillows a weird shape and size. More of a motel, which isn't apparent from the pictures, and great overall for the price. The downtown is walkable, but doesn't seem like it when you arrive as it's off of a highway. Just set your expectations. Was on the backside of the building where the train tracks are. I sleep like a rock, but my partner wasn't feeling it. Beds are amazing. A buddy who was also staying said it was the first great 9 hours night of sleep he'd had in months.
Our room was pretty musty smelling, which was my biggest complaint. They texted me not long after check in to see how things were going (which was a really nice touch!) and I let them know about the issue. Cindy went out of her way to change our room, but the only other room available (that didn't also have an odor) had 2 queens, instead of a king, so we opted to stay put. I think the main reason for the musty smell is that I can see daylight at the bottom of the door, which probably lets moisture in. The room itself was ok, but could use a remodel. The proximity to town is very walkable. The pool was nice and not overly chlorinated or crowded. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were kinda lame. Overall a decent value, but definitely a motel vibe. I would give it 3 stars, but they get an extra one for good customer service!
Ignore the haters. You do not get places that nice for this price- ever. Everyone agrees on how friendly the staff is but the overall experience was great. We paid about $100/night. The door stuck a little bit, the shower knob was a little wonky. But heck, we paid $100! It’s was a great experience, it was SO close to all the things and the De León restaurant was delicious. Oh and did I mention we had a view of the water?! We loved it!
I was greeted by Cindy at check-in, and she was friendly, welcoming, and efficient, making the check-in process quick and easy. The location is excellent, about a mile from the fort and within walking distance if you’re comfortable with a walk. The hotel also offers a small bar, an on-site restaurant, and a convenient market with snacks and drinks. Overall, it was a great experience. At this price point, it’s hard to ask for much more. I would definitely stay here again if I’m ever back in St. Augustine.
HORRIBLE!! I have traveled a TON and stayed at all types of places. This is by far THE WORST place ever. The place is an old motel that was probably amazingin the 70's. It was terribly run down and outdated. The pool area was less than desirable - dirty, worn out furniture and in need of a lot of TLC. The hot tub didn't work. There were no towels avaliable as noted in the room. The overall location of The Ponce was so bad and a bit sketchy. Also, you couldn't walk to the historic part of town. I tried to make the best of it but bailed after only 2 hours. The room was less than basic with an old tv and vcr! It felt like a rent by the hour type of place. This overnight trip was meant to be special and a much needed break from stress. It missed the mark MAJORILY. Be warned!! Also, the photos online are misleading. Save your money, and yourself, and avoid this place!
