Wow!! A 600 year old oak tree is pretty neat to see right in the middle of St. Augustine. It is in the middle of a hotel parking lot of all places. Lol! It is beautiful nature for sure and it is special to see it is valued and protected. Enjoy visiting it! Cheers!
Hey if you want a little bit of tree fun this tree is over 600 years old that's an estimate it's a giant tree it's cool in the summer and shade all year round. But it's just pretty awesome and amazing. I think it's worth a trip There's a place you can sit out underneath it.
Please go see this piece of Histrory. Stand calm and still and feel the humanity that is held in the ground. Imagine what this tree has experienced and witnessed...if it could tell us its story we would all be in awe as we should be
I know it.s just a tree, but.... while St. Augustine was founded by the Spanish in 1565, the Old Senator Tree was already a well-established tree by then. It has more than 650 years. It is often called a Love Tree, because a palm tree has actually grown right through the center of the oak's massive trunk and branches. Local legend says that if a couple kisses beneath a "Love Tree" (where two different species are intertwined), their love will last forever.
Looks like the limbs had been trimmed back. It was smaller than I thought it would be. I'm still glad we got to see it.
