This was a lovely place to stay and very reasonably priced. The room was nice. My only complaint was that the mattress was very hard. While my wife sleeps primarily on her back, this did not cause an issue. For me, that was not the case. The next day my hip hurt all day due to my side sleeping. Otherwise, we were very happy. It was close to where we wanted to go as well.
We really enjoyed staying here. The room we were in was clean, comfortable, and spacious. It was close to area attractions and easy to find. I wouldn't say it's walking distance, but that didn't matter to us. But, everything is close driving wise. We loved the pool! It was clean, and had towels for guest use. Also appreciated the free breakfast. We would definitely stay there again.
When I first arrived with my friends and family at the Flagler Inn, my expectations almost immediately lessened. What was advertised online as cute place to stay near St. Augustine’s historic district turned out to be more of a shoddy motel. Let’s start with the facts, first being the scenery on our arrival. Before we even stepped into the room, we noticed a squadron of 6 cop cars across the street. Of course, the women at the front desk assured us they were here for “Nacho Libre” the restaurant across the street. Good thing we had good security. When we first walked into the room, we were greeted by the lovely aroma of mildew and urine coming from the bathroom. The problems then started to get a little better when I realized that the shower was covered in black and brown marks with the welcome addition of a colony of ants. No shower tonight! Let’s go! As I left the “bathroom” in dismay, my sister noticed the nice decorative black mold dripping down the painting. I was so glad when the woman from the front desk came to clean it with a dirty rag and some water. She explained that it wasn’t actually mold. It must’ve just been some other smelly substance growing on the wall! Good thing we didn’t over react. I’ll never stay here. This place is horrible. When we took pictures of the place the woman because visibly upset because we wanted to leave. I recommend you pay the extra $40 and stay at the Hampton Inn across the street.
Overall the stay was decent. You enter your room from the parking lot so that was nice because our rental van was just a few steps away. However, a few downfalls with the room…. The shower was ok but the edge of the shower to the tile floor was gross. The plumbing under the sink looks moldy as well. While laying in bed I could see the under part of my lamp shade and it was nasty. Idk what it was but it was gross. The most annoying part was that it seemed like the floors have never been mopped. Our feet were black after just walking from the shower to our bed. We had to wear shoes the entire time we were in the room and I was constantly having to wipe my daughter’s feet because the floor was so gross. Also, I asked the guy at the front desk for a towel around 7pm. He told me he would grab some and bring them to our room. It was 9:30 by the time we decided to go to bed after never getting new towels. I went back the next morning and the girl working got them for me immediately. Lastly, the breakfast is very basic. Sausage, egg patties, waffles, muffins, cereal, and oat meal. Overall, it wasn’t terrible. The bed was comfy and we were close to everything we needed. I just wish it was a little bit cleaner and MOPPED.
I booked a 3 night stay at the Flager Inn through Expedia. When I arrived the lobby looked nothing like the pictures on the web site. The lobby was dirty and looked a mess. I got my room keys and the room was a 2nd floor room with outside stairs. I asked for a 1st floor but was told that they were all booked and there were no elevators. I inspected the room and found it to be dirty and there were dead bugs in the sofa bed and the bathroom and living area were dirty. The floors and and wall had not had a good cleaning for a long time. The bed was a sheet of plywood with a mattress on top of it. I returned to the front desk and told the employee that I could not stay there due to the poor condition of the room. He was pleasant and gave me the number of Expedia so I could cancel the reservation and gave me the names of other hotels close by. My chase credit card was billed for a one nights stay due to the late cancelation but it indicated that the charges were from the Jay Bird Inn. I called Chase to see who the Jay Bird Inn was as I booked The Flagler Inn. They advised that the official name of the Flagler Inn was the Jay Bird Inn. I found this to be very strange. It cost me the price of a nights stay to learn a lesson. I would suggest that Expedia and others who list the Flagler Inn do an inspection to verify that what is advertised by pictures and condition is what the customer is expecting to purchase. If they don't want to check out the properties they should give a disclaimer "Buyer Beware".
