We were away visiting family and looked up the nearest Catholic Church, we picked this one without knowing it was an Ordinate Catholic church. It was so beautiful and reverent. It was a great experience and wish we had one near home. We will definitely be back next year when we're down this way!
As an autistic mum of autistic children, I was always on edge at our other parishes, never knowing when we would receive the dreaded comments from other people on how we weren’t good enough in some way. I’d told myself it didn’t hurt too much that we weren’t as included by the other families. But when we started going to St James, and we were fully welcomed, I realized what I had been missing. Our first Sunday there, my youngest had a meltdown and I apologized to Fr Mayer. He shrugged it off and said it was fine. My children feel the difference here, knowing they are fully welcomed. It’s the first parish where my eldest has wanted to share his gift of playing violin. (Also helps that I’m an Anglophile and love the liturgy, and the way religious ed is handled with not being tied to Sacramental prep, but lifelong formation.)
Was invited to check it out, and glad I did. Very reverent worship, but very accessible and not “cold”. Great to see all families and generations worshiping together. I hope to be able to visit again soon.
As a former Protestant, I found home at St James. The liturgy is orthodox and traditional. The community is welcoming and appealing. It is a family friendly environment that is deep in scripture and ready to engage the public in the ministry of Christ. Most of all it’s Catholic. Come and join us.
I am a regular parishioner here with my family. The liturgy is the most traditional I have found that is still in English rather than Latin, but there is a small amount of Latin worked into the Mass. If you're curious, just come check it out!
