If I could give St. Augustine Home Improvements 100 stars, I would. Sam and his crew went above & beyond to turn our dated beach condo into a modern dream getaway, and I am thrilled every time I walk through the door. I had very specific ideas for this remodel, and boy did they deliver! We submitted an inquiry through his website, and within 30 minutes Sam personally called to discuss. We did a major overhaul – raised ceilings, removed/added walls, added plumbing, rearranged ductwork, installed decorative ceiling and wall trim details – and everything turned out exactly as planned. My favorite thing about working with Sam is his communication. I had MANY inspiration pictures to help the team visualize exactly what I wanted; sometimes Sam even requested a picture to be sure we were on the same page. He double checked to verify installation details (location/orientation of tiles, positions of new shower heads, etc). A few times, after seeing something installed, I wanted to tweak it (the board and batten was a little close together, I had them spread it out) – Sam said “no problem at all, it’s easy to change” and didn’t make me feel bad about it at all. Sam and his crew made a massive renovation seem like a walk in the park, did a beautiful job, and most of all, made it easy on us as the homeowners. We expanded the master bath to be more spacious and add a 2nd showerhead plus handheld sprayers. All three closets were redone, complete with custom built-in drawers and shelving. I had bunk beds delivered that needed assembly; the team built them for us. We replaced the old dated bathroom shower tile and vanities in both bathrooms with new styles to my taste, and added shower niches (one of my new tiles didn’t have trim pieces available, so they created the niche by cutting the tiles just so, then using grout to smooth and disguise the edges – turned out great). We took out the old L-shaped kitchen counter and installed a kitchen island instead. We wanted our friend’s cabinet business to install the cabinets, and Sam easily coordinated all the site visits with them. We re-routed ductwork in the dropped ceilings in the kitchen and bathrooms to raise them from 6'8" to 8'. Across the entire condo the old popcorn ceiling and tile floors were uneven from 40+ years of settling, so they evened those out, and replaced the old tile flooring with beautiful new LVP that looks like white oak. We replaced the old dated doors with a more modern style, and added decorative trim to each doorway. There was a huge old hot water tank in the laundry room; they replaced it with a tiny tankless water heater instead. The bulky old HVAC system was also in the laundry room – you can’t get rid of that, but they walled it off with a removable access panel painted to match the blue walls, complete with white accent trim – what a huge difference it made to hide that ugly old machinery! Perhaps most impressive: the tongue & groove wood ceilings. My husband and I created the exact stain color we wanted, BUT it was a 3-step process of 3 different colors to achieve. Sam warned me there may be lots of color variation due to the nature of wood boards and the multi-step process of layered staining, but they turned out VERY evenly colored and just like the sample board we gave them! They set up stations with timers to be sure each board was stained exactly the same. The wood ceilings at the condo look better than the ones in our actual full-time house! I could not be happier with the entire process and gorgeous results of working with St. Augustine Home Improvements. Sam is a true gem - extremely skilled, very easy to work with, always reliable, responsive to questions, and receptive to all my ideas. I’ve never worked with a contractor with such open communication and willingness to collaborate to achieve exactly what I wanted, and it made all the difference. St. Augustine Home Improvements is the only company I trust to bring my remodel visions to life. Working with Sam is a 100% positive experience, and I very highly recommend him and his whole team!
Sam and his team are wonderful to work with. They have remodeled our kitchen, laundry room, and three bathrooms in our home over the last four years. Sam took the time to understand our vision and make it a reality… Or even better. He stands behind his work, and is a perfectionist. His team of Contractors, electricians, And plumbers are professional and dependable. Sam is very clear about budget, and in a couple of cases, even came in under what we had anticipated. He worked with us to understand the complete costs and also had some ideas for savings where appropriate. Besides the quality work, we highly recommend Sam for the integrity with which he runs his business.
You can trust Sam and his team to do a professional job, on time and on budget with a two year warranty. He is eager to meet your vision and needs and also has great design ideas. He is flexible with changes and keeps the customer informed of budgetary implications and alternatives. His team goes the extra mile to make sure you’re comfortable and set up in your new environment. All work is up to code and has met inspection requirements. We’re very happy in our renovated home.
My wife and I recently relocated from Boston, which prompted the purchase of a home at Marsh Creek Country Club. After interviewing numerous building / renovation firms, we hired Sam Shelton of St. Augustine Home Improvements given his excellent reputation; the quality of his portfolio; the insight he brought to preliminary discussions; and the thoroughness of his proposal, which detailed every aspect of the project and its corresponding budget. Our project entailed a completely reimagined kitchen; replacement of all windows and doors; new flooring throughout the home; and various painting, plumbing, lighting and electrical work. Sam took responsibility for every challenge the project presented and developed solutions with an unwavering focus on our customer satisfaction, which included shielding us from unnecessary stress. Sam was meticulous in his planning, documentation and communication, and his calm demeanor is a cornerstone of his professionalism. He and his team met every expectation of our vision, and at no point were we presented with a cost “surprise”. We look forward to engaging Sam again in the next year or so for bathroom remodeling. We suspect the words “we love our general contractor” are rarely used; however, in the case of Sam Sheldon of St. Augustine Home Improvements, the words are exactly appropriate.
Sam and his entire team did an incredible job on our oceanfront remodel. With several remodels under our belt now, Sam’s crew has definitely been the most pleasant to work with. The integrity and quality of work provided exceeded all expectations. Highly recommend.
