Came in Sunday afternoon and ordered some drinks, a flight & food. Very nice atmosphere. Bartender was a super nice guy & very attentive. We got beef lumpia (delicious), chicken bacon tacos (omg) & cheesesteak flatbread (to die for). Drinks were lemon merengue sour (so good), different beers that were really good. A notable one is the pbj one and this one was a great balance between peanut butter & jelly. Pb can be overpowering which I don’t mind cuz I love that flavor but this was a great balance. Would come back 10/10
Next time, we’ll skip it. We’ve been wanting to try this place for a while since it’s not far from our house. We like craft beer and appreciate breweries, so we walked in on a Saturday afternoon feeling hopeful and left disappointed. When we arrived, there were maybe six people inside besides us, all sitting at the bar. The bartender was standing there talking to them and ignored us completely. No greeting, no eye contact, nothing. We called out to him to ask about ordering, and he told us to come to the bar. We said, “Oh, okay, we’re new,” and then noticed the sign on the wall saying to order at the bar. My husband went up to order, and the bartender was standing there looking at his phone. Instead of walking a couple of feet toward him, he told my husband to come farther down the bar to order. Really? He couldn’t walk two feet for a customer, let alone a new one forming a first impression of the place? We only wanted a snack, so we ordered the pretzel sticks. They arrived quickly, hot and fresh, and were tasty with beer cheese and brown mustard on the side. Unfortunately, the IPA we tried wasn’t good. It had a bitter aftertaste. Not hoppy, just bitter. I didn’t finish mine. The atmosphere was okay inside, and we saw a few outdoor tables. The place is a little sign-crazy, but we liked the open layout and being able to see the brewery section. If the one staff member we dealt with, who I hope wasn’t the owner, had been friendly and more welcoming, we might have been inclined to come back and try a different beer. But based on our experience, we’ll move on to another place that is more welcoming to customers.
SJ Brewing was a just place on the map we wanted to check out and we were so glad we did. It's a small cozy brewery and taproom in a storefront on a busy street. We arrived at a good time in early afternoon and we were able to talk at kength to the friendly bartender, Cam. He was informative and made our visit enjoyable. There was a selection of about a dozen beers on tap and each one we tried was somewhere between very good and great. We also enjoyed seeing their beer can collection with many cans from the 1980s, including the Knoxville World's Fair series of cans, and Billy Beer, which referred to President Jimmy Carter's comical brother, Billy. It was great to see these cans in great condition all these years later.. we will stop here again and try some more SJ brews the next time we are in the area.
Absolutely a must when you are in Yulee! The beers 🍺 are great! Enjoying the #199 Hazy IPA and “The Dark” an imperial double porter. Had a chance to say hello to the owners S (who is a great chef and brewer) and J (who proves to be a wonderful support to the brewery) and also the amazing Cam who is one of the most helpful bartenders you will ever meet! He is also helps make the 🍺! Thank you S & J Brewery for serving the community!
Very chill environment. Beer selection was about a 3.5-4. Cider option, bottled Mackenzie only. Apps were meh. Definitely go for the beer & environment, not the food. :)
