I'm sorry to say this restaurant has changed since I last visited. Ty he prices are high example: Mama ordered lunch size Catfish and shrimp w/2 sizes, $14.99 med. Tea $4.59, Total over $20. I ordered the special 20 fried shrimp /2 side /drink $16.99 yet when I got home realize Total was $18.99. WHAT?! $2, tax. My food came and the server said OH, there's 2 of you, let me get the other food. Both orders went in at the same time. 5 minutes pass ,still no food. I went to the counter she said it's coming right now. So I returned to the table, another 5 minutes pass now my 92 year old mother said now I'm upset , goes to counter complaining about no food yet. The woman turns and says loudly, jeez wheres that catfish and shrimp dinner? By the time her food came mine was no longer hot, I put it in a to go box. The experience ruined our Mothers Day dinner. It wasn't crowded yet the excuse was they had a large order to get out. Ok, so why do that one before completing our table and not even apologize or check on us. Plus, her portion to price ratio was outrageous. Look at the photos and decide for yourself. In my opinion the most shocking was $4.59 for a medium unsweetened tea that cost them at most 50 cents to make if that. I'll never return and will discourage family and friends.
Great food for the price. We had gator bites, salad, and chicken alfredo. All I could say is the alfredo sauce could use some kind of seasoning - it was pretty bland. Impressed they did gator right though!!
We have been here a few times and it was always great. We went on 4th of July and it was dead as expected. We ordered our food and sat down hoping to have a great lunch and it was not. The catfish tasted like dirt and old . My scallops which I did not order but the counter girl said I did (I never order scallops) were the fake fish ones and they tasted old and extremely fishy. The drinks were almost $5 a piece . Which is outrageous but it is what it is . So it was a not a yummy lunch at all. To top things off got food poisoning and that was all we had so I know it was this place especially from the taste of the food. Only props I will give was it was clean except the salt and pepper shakers and high chairs were gross. For $55.00 for 2 meals expect better .
Was staying in Jax overnight before a flight out and a guy at our hotel recommended this place. He said it was locally owned, not fancy, but pretty good food for the $, so we weren't expecting high-end. The place turned out to be very underwhelming. Def not fancy, older so it could use some updating, and felt like it could use a deep cleaning. You walk up to the counter to order, fix your own drink, and then sit where you like and they bring you your food. The staff were friendly enough. Guy on register tried to steer us to the platter for two, but my hubby prefers fish. They have tons of different combos but no fish & scallops combo which is what my hubby wanted. The guy said he could do that for a $3 upcharge, making his meal $21.99. He got it broiled with sides of rice and corn. I got the gator and shrimp combo fried, with a baked potato and coleslaw. The grouper and scallops looked good when they brought everything out, but it was not large portions and hubby said they were not as flavorful as they looked. The scallops were overcooked and hard, the rice he only ate one bite of (if you know my husband, that's a really bad sign... he eats pretty much anything) and the corn was stale. He did enjoy the med sized piece of grouper but the meal was def not worth $21.99. My combo was okay, minus the gator. I've had gator enough to know that if it's cooked right, it's delicious... but it's easy to cook wrong and most people overcook it, including this place. I'm actually not even totally sure it was all gator. Some pieces were long and slender like clam strips, others were chunks like scallops, but all were tough and greasy. The potato was very dry. I used all 4 little dollops of butter spread they provided and 2 of the sour creams, and it was still dry. The cole slaw was average. The shrimp were pretty good, and I ended up with more food with the lunch portion than he did with the dinner portion. Had I just stuck with shrimp only, I probably would have been satisfied with my dinner for the price... But that gator was just wrong. Between the lack of any ambience and average at best food (sadly, mostly below) we were disappointed. We read some decent reviews, so hopefully it was just an off night, but we won't be returning to find out.
First time I had stopped in here.I got the combo twenty grilled shrimp, green beans, and the rice, with a soft drink for 18 bucks. You order at the counter and get a number and the food was delivered very quickly. Looks to be a great place to host events.Plenty of seating. The busser was very attentive at keeping the tables clear as well.
