Love the St Augustine area!. The town has so much history & amazing small businesses that make it one of the bast places in Florida to visit (IMO). Although the weather didn't cooperate for us hoomans this time around our pooch Layla had an absolute BLAST!!! Most of the places in town are dog friendly & the beach is as well. Plus the police are lenient on letting you & your four legged friends play around on the beach as long as you use some common sense & keep them close to you while they are having fun. 🐶🏖️
Parking is pretty limited hard to find. The beach is expansive ,lots of room. It wasn’t crowded at all on a Sunday afternoon. Great place for kids.
There is plentiful free public parking with bathrooms, foot rinse, and shower. Far less people than the beaches to the south and beautiful dunes. Plus there is a lot of sand space to enjoy.
The Black Heritage Trail details nearly 500 years of St. Johns County Black history, from the first man of African descent to land in Florida in 1513 to the Civil Rights movement of the 196OS. St. Johns County boasts a rich African heritage and historic milestones, including the nation's first legally recognized free Black community, early post-slavery settlements, and a historically Black college where Zora Neale Hurston taught. This location, including the two-story St. Augustine Beach Hotel south of the pier, played a critical role in the Civil Rights movement as a staging ground for wade-ins to desegregate Florida's beaches. Stroll through history as you walk to the beach. The story panels along the columns of the historic St. Augustine Beach Hotel bring St. Johns County's Black heritage and the Civil Rights Movement to life, connecting the past with the present.
Beach was clean quiet and beautiful. Definitely best place to visit with family vacation. Water is not like an emerald clear like Destin or panama city beach but definitely worth a visit.
