Dr. Buffington was my son's pediatrician since my son was born. Although Dr. Buffington is very nice, he was very dismissive of my concerns regarding my son's feeding. My boy did not eat. He only drank formula. He would not eat purees, would not try candy, would not eat any solids, would not drink any liquid except infant formula. Dr. Buffington was our pediatrician until my boy was a little over 2. EVERY TIME I brought up the concern of my son not eating, he would say it is because I am over feeding him on formula and that I need to let him get hungry. We tried everything that Dr. B recommended and NOTHING ever worked and yet we were still not taken seriously. My boy is 3 now. He was recently diagnosed with Pediatric Feeding Disorder. We are in an intensive 12 week feeding therapy program where we see a feeding therapist 4 times a week for 1 hour. My boy is now learning to chew and is finally eating solids! He is drinking water and is no longer on infant formula! Someone actually listened to our concerns. Parents, DO NOT accept an answer to your concern from anyone just because they have a medical degree. Follow your gut! You know when something is not right. I wish I knew that feeding difficulties in children exist, but most importantly I wish the medical professional that is supposed to know these things would have actually taken our concerns seriously and guided us. We are tremendously disappointed and sad that so much time was wasted with this doctor. We brought up our concerns for approximately a year. For a year we were told we are overfeeding.
I first noticed signs of autism in my son when he was about two years old. I expressed my concerns to Dr. Rustin multiple times, often in tears, only to be told that my son was just “really smart” and not autistic. Meanwhile, we were struggling daily—his tantrums could last for hours, he was highly sensitive to noise, bath time was a nightmare, he had a limited diet, an expressive speech delay, and aggressive behaviors like hitting and throwing things. Eventually, he was even expelled from preschool. After switching pediatricians, my concerns were finally taken seriously. By age four, he was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD, but his ADHD symptoms were so severe that they couldn’t complete an autism evaluation. We were advised to reassess once his ADHD was better managed. At age six, he was officially diagnosed with level II autism. We continue to face daily challenges. He still has meltdowns, requires multiple therapies, and needs medication. Dr. Rustin, if you read this, I hope you will truly listen to parents when they voice concerns about their children. Had you taken my worries seriously and referred us for an evaluation, my son could have received crucial interventions at a younger age, making a significant difference in his development. Please don’t dismiss parents who are desperately seeking help for their children. It matters.
Doctor Rustin has been seeing my twins since they were released from the NICU. He is so wonderful with children and they absolutely love him. Very knowledgeable, patient and caring. He always takes time to answer all of my questions and concerns. Highly recommend!
Dr. Rustin is truly the best pediatrician I've ever met. His ability to flex his style to every age with equal enthusiasm and grace is remarkable. He has a gift!
There is not another pediatrician like Dr Rustin!!! Always willing to go the extra mile and check on his patients even when we are scheduled for a sick check with another provider (all providers are amazing in this office!!!). Not many offices will take a call from a parent at 4pm and get the child in at 4:30pm on a Friday- thank you, thank you, thank you so much for always going above and beyond for your patients!!
