Getting to perform The Sound Of Music in this church was one of the most magical experiences of my life. The church itself is beautiful and magnificent and overall gives off a very comfy and protective vide, it makes you feel like nothing bad can happen there even if you’re at your lowest of lows.
I just left this church before the sermon ended because it was the most vile and self-centered sermon I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing. I do not know the mans name nor do I care what it is because I will NEVER be going back. This church preaches goodness to all and I was so so excited to be in an accepting fellowship where Jesus reigns at the heart. What I witnessed was a man talking about his own self and his own life (not during a testimony by the way), treating a sermon like a comedy talk show. He said, verbatim, "I don't think I should admit it but sometimes, when I see a homeless person I pretend that they aren't really there." What kind of person says that as a pastor at an inclusive church?! I was shocked at the level of pretensiousness of that man. He boasted about his private school masters degree and oozed a disgusting level of narcissism. I felt called to this church, but I did NOT feel his prescence in that church whatsoever. I have prayed for the congregation since leaving and I will continue praying that God will open that man's eyes and show him that what he says as the pastor of a church hold's weight in the fellowship of Christ.
Growing up catholic, I gave so much to the church being a youth group leader, an altar, boy, and just overall being really involved I loved my religion, but with me being gay, I didn’t feel like it loved me back Since then I really haven’t gone to church and it’s been years. My fiancé grew up southern Baptist, and experienced a similar experience. We both still hold on to ur faith and do little things amongst ourselves to stay connected to God though. We walked in and within five minutes was greeted by a gentleman who was studying to become a pastor. He Shared that he was part of the LGBT community as well, which was initially very shocking for me, but brought such a huge smile to my face and definitely put five fears at ease a little bit. After that, one of the pastors got on the pulpit, and welcomed everybody to the church and said those words that I’ll never forget. “Where all are welcome”, and then to have the entire congregation say back “and by all we mean all”. Up until that point me and my fiancé didn’t know what kind of decorum we should use whether he was sitting too close to me, or whether or not he can hold my hand, but as soon as I heard those words, I immediately looked at him and couldn’t help but to start crying. For the first time in my life, I felt like I could be a part of an organized religion celebrate my faith and be excited about it again. This is t just a church that says they accept everyone but doesn’t really. When they mean all they mean all!
Nice church to go to brings out the beauty of its one hundred year old sanctuary.
Gorgeous church! I went here for the 11am service today. This is the first time I’ve been to service in quite some time. This is the most welcoming, considerate, and inclusive church I have found thus far. The leadership took time before the service to greet me, get to know me a little, and impress upon me how thankful they are I came in today. I have never felt so truly and unabashedly welcomed and valued in a church before. I will definitely be returning.
