UPDATE: I just ran a 2:57:45 marathon 3 days ago. My 3rd marathon - the Ameris Jax Bank Marathon. I beat my Dec. 2023 PR (aka my pre-femoral orif surgery) 3 days ago with a whopping 9 minute PR and time-qualifying me for any marathon in the world. When I tell ppl a year and a half ago I couldn’t walk, they’re incredulous. Dr. Picerno is the best of the best. I’m so lucky he was my surgeon given my procedure was 100% emergency! Obvs. I don’t have my surgeon’s contact info, but I would appreciate it if someone could pass this on to him. His work is so appreciated. ******************************************* On June 30, 2024 I broke my right leg in 5+ places thanks to what probably was a budding stress fracture (elite runner running >100 miles/wk) plus a trip and fall in my own bedroom thanks to my own clumsimess. Luckily I live with my parents. When I wiped out, I couldn’t move my leg. I yelled “Dad, get Mom!” My mom was cooking dinner, but ran back to check out what had happened asap. Immediately upon seeing my leg, she called 911. She and my dad later told me my leg wasn’t even straight thanks to how badly my femur was broken. I’m grateful for the EMT guys who managed to get me out of my room. I’m grateful for the people at Baptist South who realised pumping me with morphine wasn’t enough given what had happened and put me on ketamine instead (trust me, you could care less about “getting high” whe you are experiencing the worst pain of your life. Dr. Picero operated on me less than 12 hrs later the next day. I guess I “came to” sometime during the afternoon of 7/1/24. The pain was still the worst thing I’d ever experienced, but at this point they had me with the proper care team at the hospital. I sas discharged on 7/6/24. I was supposed to do PT with JOI for months, but the PT I was supposed to work with said I’d have to have the titanium rod removed within a year, and I had no hope of running within a year. I left that appointment in tears. Running is my life. I asked Dr. Picerno if what the PT said was true, and he looked dumbstruck. “No way!” he told me. He was shocked the PT people (JOI San Marco) would be such liars. FYI: I have worked exclusively with Iselborrn Sports Recovery since the JOI guys in San Marco lie and work with 3-4 ppl to hour. If you are perfectly fit, you don’t need to see them and waste money for common sense info. I decided to quit JOI PT on my own they sucked so bad. Dr. Picerno gave me clearance to run on 10/1/24. While it was hard to run after getting so out of shape, Dr. Picero’s work was flawless. With my determination and support from my fellow 1st Place Sports Elites, I was able to run a half marathon PR orf 1:25:15 on 12/14/24. I wasn’t in perfect shape when it came time for Boston, but I ran a 3:24…something I’m pretty proud lf given that less tham a year had passed since my surgery! Today is 7/17/25. I’m just over a year out from surgery. If it weren’t for my injured knee clicking (they had to bust the knee cap to insert the titanium rod) I would feel no different! Suffice it to say Dr. Picerno is a miracle workoer. I trust him with my life and would do the same if my family members were in my shoes. I’ll attempt to include a pic of my broken leg last August as well as that same leg in a race on 7/4/25. Thank you Dr. Picerno…I’m not a typically religous person, but I thank God you were called to work on me. Photos are July 2024 (first 2) followed by 12/14/24 and 4/21/25. Dr. Picerno is a miracle worker!
From my first visit, Dr Picerno was so kind and gracious. He quickly and expertly diagnosed my Knee issues. He immediately ordered on-site X-rays and showed me clearly why I was hurting and how to stop that permanently. Dr Picerno is a incredible Knee/ ortho expert. Dr Picerno visited me in the hospital before and after the surgery. Not only is Dr Picerno an incredible surgeon but he took time to pray with me before my surgery. Also, my daughter had serious knee issues and Dr Picerno did miraculous surgeries on both her knees. Our family loves Dr Picerno and are so thankful he treated both my daughter and I. We both enjoy our pain free knees today. And thank you for my incredible bionic NEW knee - yes that’s my NEW knee in the picture.
Dr. Picerno performed a total hip replacement on me 2 weeks ago. Today I am doing excellent. People are shocked at how well I am doing. Dr. Picerno explained everything thoroughly and is very personable. He is a Christian man and prayed with me before surgery. I would highly recommend him! He is the best!
Dr Picerno has been my knee guy for over 2 decades, he has walked beside me throughout the intire history on my left knee that began with a basketball injury. He has always taken the utmost care and least invasive procedures possible. I am now 66 years old and it was finally time for knee replacement. It was painful as to be expected on the recovery but doing the rehab as directed by Dr Picerno my knee feels remarkable. Thank you Dr Picerno and God bless you sir
Dr. Picerno is a very kindhearted doctor who listens to his patients respectfully. He thoroughly explains my condition and treatment options. He has seen me for a knee injury. The surgery was very successful and have Dr. Picerno be my surgeon was a big blessing. He is without a doubt one of the most trusted and best doctors we have ever seen!
