My former English/Language Arts teaching partner and I met up in Jacksonville to catch up! What better place than Poe’s to reminisce teaching The Tell-Tale Heart to our 8th graders while also getting some yummy bar food? First - we loved the decor - all the Poe artwork and quotes, and the read-aloud in the bathroom was an extra cool touch. The menu item names were clever and our table chatted about favorite or forgotten Poe stories while browsing the menu. I thought the food was great!!! The burgers were flavorful and the bar staple items hit the spot. Extra bonus on the menu - Buffalo shrimp!!!! While it was advertised in a wrap, our server brought it to me as an appetizer as I requested. It has been years since I had buffalo shrimp so I was very appreciative. Our server was outstanding. We were a bigger party (5 adults and an adorable three-and-half-year-old) and we occupied the center table for quite some time. We never felt rushed and she was super accommodating and professional. (I really need to get in the habit of recording my server’s names as she was fabulous). Something to note - there is restaurant parking available. (However, we uber’d since we were drinking). Overall - 5 stars! A great place for ELA teachers to nerd out while enjoying yummy food, cocktails (or wine) and catching up with friends. But you don’t have to be a Poe fan to enjoy the place… Everyone will love it. Poe would be pleased.
I've always seen Poe's when I'm at the beaches but never ate here until recently. My husband and I both had burgers with chili and they were good! The fries were shoestring style and not our favorite but our toddler loved them. The atmosphere is fun and the decor is on theme. Our waitress was great and we enjoyed our meal!
Wasn't sure i wanted a burger with my bride of one year but we found paRking, qot the free code inside from hostess and we were seated immediately amongst Edgar Allen Poe pictures, posters and stain glass. The menu allowed meat or vegetarian selections. Okay, the burgers blew us away!!! Absolutely delicious and surprisingly nice atmosphere. Now our server sparkled in personality !! Ask for Meagan B. When you visit!!!!
Took a while to get a server however we got free appetizers because of it! Great service and great bar like atmosphere. Food tastes terrific! Definitely recommend eating here!
We have been to Poe's Tavern numerous times over the years, but I think tonight's experience was the best, by far. Maybe because the crowd was kind of slim for a Saturday evening in July, allowing for more attention on each table. Server Kayleigh was absolutely terrific. She was friendly, polite and genuinely seemed like she was happy to be there. She went out of her way to look into some specific ingredients that were of concern to my wife and acted like she cared about our experience. I ordered off-menu, but Kayleigh handled it like a pro. The resulting garlic Bleu cheese bacon burger was phenomenal, as were everyone else's burgers. I have always enjoyed Poe's Tavern, but if you can get Kayleigh as your server, you'll have a great time.
